There may be a cost for any venue that we use, and that would be shared amongst the participants.

I think I would definately need a course like this, however, with only about 9 weeks to go before the expected birth of Reschsmooth Jr, I don't want to commit to something I may not be able to make, thereby robbing someone else of the opportunity.

Sounds good though.

Cheers

Gary, in case my ambiguous ramblings weren't clear, if numbers become an issue, and I am taking someone's spot, you can exclude me as the next 9 weeks will be very uncertain for me - ie. I don't want to say yes, and then, on very short notice, have to pull out, thereby depriving someone else of the opportunity. However, if notice is not required, I will put my hand up as a potential contender.

Patrick,

Thanx, and no worries.

Let's see what happens when Matt gives me an indication of dates, and then we source a venue.

I certainly would be interested, I've found all of Matt's presentations very informative, unfortunately I'm out of the country a fair bit in the coming months, so dates could be tricky for me..

Amended list ...

Jeff
Michael_,
Kyle,
Kris,
Andre (Radar),
Wocka
Alan (Raskill)
Lynn (Nikkonfan)
Steffen
Mick (Oscar)
Zsolt (Zeddy)
Craig (Alpha_7)
Yi-P

Bruce (Oz_Beachside)
Patrick (Reschsmooth),

That's 15 ....

Matt is happy with a date in the latter half of May. I need to sus out a possible venue: does anyone have a preference for either May 19 or 26?

Bruce, will May 26 work for you, or does that exclude you?

Gary,

May is good for me so either of those dates. First weekend of June is also good. After that, not good.

Thanks,

I'm a bit confused at just who the short course is aimed at. My initial understanding was that it was basic photography aimed at a beginners level.....stuff like the basics, camera tips, simple lighting tips, tips on getting better images and maybe a very simple workflow. I see the attendee list contains names of folk who could be said to have fairly advanced skills and so I am now not sure what is expected. I can't cover basic and advanced in 4 hours and I don't want to disappoint anyone. Perhaps those who have listed their names should put forward a wish list of what it is they want to cover? Then I could get an idea of what to prepare.

Matt my suggestions -instruction on the use of SB800,or the workings of photoshop.

SB800 / 580EX would be awesome, i finally used mine extensively this weekend and well struggled.

A course that can make my camera take better photos would be ideal.

Seriously, a portraiture/lighting/workflow/retouching course would be great, and, given time constraints, a course focusing on the first two would be enough for me (especially if the course was based around use of a D200, Metz CL4 & SB800 (plus two monoblocks and brollies).

Patrick,

Some of what you're suggesting is pretty much a redo of last year's portraiture workshop, and I do want to have another one (or two) of those in the not too distant future.

But I see those as being separate from what we're discussing here.

I'm still working on securing a venue, btw.

Gary, I figured that maybe the case - perhaps I should be more specific: portraiture photos of newborns?

Slightly OT, but does anyone know of Sports Photog courses in Sydney?

I saw one once run by a photog from the SMH (i think), but can't find anything.

Any help appreciated.

Back on topic:

I think a portrait workshop would be nice, lets face it, theres easy money in portraits, and it leads to confidence in other areasof photography.

:D

And then someone goes and reduces the price of the 85 1.4 to $1166 just before the expecant birth of another's child! They say forgiveness is more easily obtained than permission, but I would be moidered if...

Good luck in 8 weeks!!!!

It's a whole new experience, to say the least, but one I enjoy! :D

You know, the baby bonus, it's heaps more that what a 85mm 1.4 costs....

Very true, however, you are assuming I could get anywhere near the BB! Trust me, it has already been spent, and the word Nikon didn't even get a mention!

But thanks for the good wishes, although I don't want to hijack this thread.

Matt,

I'll put my vote behind lighting workshop as well. For me, it is a bit of a hit and miss on using my SB600. This can be combined with either portrait/still life, etc whatever you want to make it intesting.

Cheers,

André

OK. I think something along the lines of a very quick overview of the basics and then a look at exploiting natural light for portraits/babies and then refining those portraits with the addition of an SB-800 or 2 and perhaps a bit of bounce with a reflector....we will leave the studio lighting for Gary or others to arrange for another session. Followed by a demonstration of working through the logical steps of controlling our cameras and subjects for maximum image quality and then maybe some simple Photoshop enhancements of our images. Then we will build a spaceship and a nuclear reactor to finish the day off. Can anyone arrange for an attractive model....preferably not professional, to join in for a fun day?
My aim would be to simplify the steps required to produce a good quality image almost down to a formula that could then be modified to suit the individuals requirements. I'm thinking the zen of photography type approach, just for a change. Hopefully we can find a venue with a variety of backgrounds...urbane or garden/park type.
Anybody still coming? :D 8) 8) 8)
