G'day, just like to show you a cropped and un-cropped image as an example. I'm putting pics up on my website and want to know if you think this is too much cropping:





I haven't printed much before, and just concerned that if someone wants a print, i wont be able to do it because it's cropped too much, and will mess up the printing sizes. I usuall take some off the top and back (if needed) to bring it closer and show more detail.

I would not say it is too much cropping, in fact I'd be more inclined to say crop further... The car is the only interesting part of the image after all.

What size prints are you selling? You should be able to get reasonable sized prints out of your crops.

Maybe a good reason to look at getting a longer lens.

Well i haven't actually sold a print yet, just got them up on my site the last few days. My thinking is that i try and print whatever size they ask for that my 6.1mp D70 can handle, and i have no idea what size people usually buy with shots like this?

I'd like to crop it more too, from the top, but thinking it might print weird or not very big. (and i randomly crop)

I use my 70-200. Would love a TC, but don't have a job anymore and can't afford it, so i need to make some clams from photog somehow...

Well if you haven't sold any yet I wouldn't worry about it. Crop to your hearts content.

I have done some work with a sports photographics company and during a big event by far the most prints sold were 6x8 inch... The prints looked fine out of older cameras like the Canon 1D even though they were often cropped even further.

I don't think the shot is cropped too much,if it was mine I would crop a lot more and make the car larger in the frame. I guess it is just a personal choice.

Thanks guys. I can get closer to the action when i shoot so i wont have to worry about this much, but all the cars are different, and if a dragster was running after this car i would have to move up high again to fit it in, so i guess i just have to make up my mind
