Found a new photographerBel and I have been away in beautiful Port Douglas for the last week - had a blast and no doubt you'll all see some of the images we got in the coming days.
We stumbled across the gallery of a 'local' photographer Peter Lik, who had some very nice images. If you're keen to look, his website is here: http://www.peterlik.com/home.php Geoff
Special Moments Photography Nikon D700, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4, 70-200 2.8VR, SB800 & some simple studio stuff.
Port Douglas is indeed tops!! We got to the Barrier Reef, the Daintree Rainforest, Cape Tribulation. We also went Hot Air Ballooning and visited the biggest Butterfly Farm in Australia - awesome place for a relaxing get away! Geoff

Man, even hearing about it brings back memories We got out to the Reef on one of the Quicksilver tours...absolutely amazing. The Daintree we did a small boat cruise on, with a guide. Fascinating to learn all about it... My one regret is that we went before I got interested in photography. I have a "few" pics, but nothing that capitalises on, or does justice to, the area. D200 + stuff
I hired a Mini from Palm Cove (got to stay there for a conference a few years ago) and visited PD. your right a lovely place and reminds me of Robe not far from here...
I remember I spent a bit of time looking through his gallery... my other memory is walking out onto the beach to be presented with some 'white pointers' sunbaking Its usually to cold down here for that D4, D700, plus glass from 14mm to 200mm
Gaffa Tape is like the FORCE... it has a Light side, a Dark side and it holds the universe together
Katie - he (according to the lady in the gallery/shop) is 'famous' for using absolutely NO PP at all. I wondered about this but have no reason not to believe this.

I got the impression he used special film and filters extensively to get the affects he's after. Certainly the book has him pictured using filters, and I've been into another gallery in Sydney (not sure who the photographer was). I believe it was with Paul, and we questioned what the photographers process was, and the lady their said, oh no Post Processing was peformed.. I guess it comes down to what you count as PP, they were obviously developed so they were processed on some way, be they seem to suggestion the colours just come out that way themselves, without any encouragement..

He also has a gallery in the QVB, near the clock, if you want to do a revisit of his images. It's pretty inspiring! Nikon D70, Nikon D200, Nikon F100, Nikon 18-70mm, Nikon 50mm, Nikon 17-55mm, Nikon 85mm, Nikon 24mm, Nikon 60mm, Nikon 105mm, Tamron 70-300, SB800, SB28, LSPJ
Peter Lik has been on the scene now for several years, and I believe he now resides in Las Vegas where he also has a very large store at Caesar's Palace casino complex, as well as his Australian stores. And yes, I also have a coffee table book of his.
Peter Lik does some great photography. Whenever we pop up to Noosa for a cuppa we like to have a browse in his gallery.
cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Geoff, I will be there, again, at the end of May. I won't have long as I will be boarding a liveaboard dive boat that evening, but I will check out the Gallery. What I think is funny about the people in Port Douglas is their sense of temperature is different to ours. I have some friends that live their now but they were originally from Sydney. Every time I'm up there I have dinner with Louise and she invariably rugs up while I'm straining with the heat in a T-shirt and shorts.
I have seen Peter's work in his Cairns Gallery. Top class. Not cheap but very nice.
Steve (Nikon D200/D700)
