South Coast NSW experts?hi
anyone here a south coast expert i'm organising a big commercial shoot down there i know of Kiama Beach, Hyams beach in particular the very white sand crystal clear waters and the nice cottages near Berry all within a resonable radious of each other im looking for non a typical locations surreal, magical and special around the area i like old cottages, nice green hillsides beaches white sand light houses interesting geographical phenomena etc im going for a road trip down there tomorrow to location scout, anyone got any recommendations? thanks in advance
Wendell,
How far south are you looking? 1.5 hrs - north of Kiama there are interesting rock formations which could provide nice backdrops 3 hrs approx - Pretty Beach (down nearer to Batemans Bay) has some spectacular coastal vistas. 5-6 hrs - There is a great spot at the northern end of Gillards Beach (Mimosa Rocks NP) with very interesting rock formations which would provide great backdrops for an early morning shoot with models. Last time I was there a German photographer was taking shots of these formations for a calendar. Also you will find many delapidated buildings at various turnoffs which may be suitable. Cheers, Mick
consider inland? i went through this area outside canberra a few months back it was spectacular, boulders coming out of lush green rolling hills, magnificent river areas and some extremely contrasty scenery where on one side is lush green pastures and the other is burnt trees from either bushfires or back burning, remember the movie the dish? thats the area which is called tidbinbilla
hi mick
its a 3 day shoot logistically i have to gather everyone up and easily move from place to place berry is as far as i can go and maybe a 20km radius from around there Hyams beach kiama Lighthouse is prime as for old buildings i like clean done-up cottages with a heritage feel colourful would be helpful from memory Berry has these sort of buildings but the main theme is beach secondary theme is seaside living thankyou everyone for your insight Michael ill check out that link, thankyou
Hyams will be more than 20km from Berry.
There is a road between Berry and Kangaroo Valley over Berry Mountain that has some nice heritage houses. Kangaroo Valley has Hampton Bridge, although none of these will match with your themes. Gerroa and Gerringong might be of use to you. Now that I think of it Coolangatta Estate will probably meet all of your requirements other than the fact it is not beachside. It is within 3km of the beach at Shoalhaven Heads and the Estate is no more than 10mins from Berry. http://www.coolangattaestate.com.au will give you an idea of the buildings available and everything else that they have. Literally 2 mins further south is the old schoolhouse arts and craft shop with old railway cars as the cafe on site. 20mins from Berry won't get you further south than Nowra but there is plenty of sites between Berry and Kiama. Really nice old house that sits on the Kiama bends that would meet your seaside and colourful buildings criteria. I hope some of this helps.
thankyou that is of extreme help the coolangatta estate is awesome just what i need to mix up the shots thanks a million this is so quaint http://www.coolangattaestate.com.au/ima ... tage01.jpg
Plenty of great spots down there. 7 mile beach is nice. If you are going to do Berry, Hyams etc, I have a house down there (Culburra Beach) that sleeps 6 for reasonable rates
There is an old lighthouse at Crookhaven Heads thats pretty cool. Try Greenfields Beach at Jervis Bay. We got married there and it is excellent. Huskinson is nice on the right day. And the pub is there for lunch. Like mentioned above, Coolangatta is great. Berry is nice, but crowded. I will reply when I think of more.
Wendell
you could also try the area just west of Kiama called Jamberoo, it has beautiful green hills and many old cottages etc - friends of ours had their wedding photos there - the cottages are open for photo shoots. Katie
