POLL: If you've changed DSLRs

Postby BT*ist on Thu May 17, 2007 10:05 am

Just thought I'd run a poll to take the pulse of movements back and forth among manufacturers. I myself have not changed (and chances are I'll go istDS to K10D... so I'd be excluded from this poll!)

The question is: if you changed brands from one DSLR to the next, what was the movement?

I've tried to accommodate as many possibilities as seemed reasonable (or humorous)...

I switched from an Olympus P&S to a Nikon F50 in the early 90's (whenever it was the F50 came out). A couple of years later I gave up the F50 to make room for an FE and soon an FE2. In 2005 I got the D2H.

Cheers

I changed from a Pentax LX that I used for alot of years to a Canon 20D and then a 1DMarkIIn.

Sorry, I know you love your Pentax but when it came time to go digital they didn't have anything that was anywhere near what I wanted.

I've only owned two DSLRS, both Canon. I keep stripping 0's out of the name so I'm really hoping they release a 3D soon :)

In my lifetime I've changed lens sets three or four times, from Nikon to Mamiya to Canon FD to Canon EF. Does that count?

I really just wanted to know who had changed camps and where they had come from/to. I guess it would have been interesting to know when, too, but that would have required a matrix-poll!

If/when I win the lottery and the winnings allow it, then I'll switch camps. D2Xs or 1Dmk3 + a batch of funky associated lenses + a new computer to handle the increased file sizes = Smiley Face :D

I didn't switch DSLR's, but I did move from Canon to Nikon when I upgraded from my old G3 ...

I sold off the flash and other accessories to fund the new gear ...

When I grew out of my Pentax Spotmatic F (lenses were no longer available!), I bought a Nikon FM2. I loved the optics, but never really liked the body as I am left eyed (& left just about everything else too!) You turn on the camera by pulling out the winder, and of course it sticks into your right eye if you have your left eye to the view finder.

From there I went to an Olympus P&S, then a Canon digital P&S, then a Nikon F3 (no problem with the right eye!) Then a Nikon D70s because I couldn't afford the D200. Then a D200 because I could now afford it.

& that's me up to date BTW I still have all the above cameras except the Pentax, my daughter has it, and the Olympus. She borrowed that one and dropped it in the sand. It was never happy again.

Prior to the Pentax I had a a succession of lesser cameras that I no longer own, including a wonderful Russian job that took 120 film and absolutely brilliant photos. I wish I could track that one down again.
