Hey all

Just wanting to hear pfom people who have had trancend cards fail on them?

I got one with my d200 from thanh in december, sold it to a friend a month ago, and yesterday after doing a day's worth o shooting, stuff that simply cannot be reshot, it failed (corrupt cf was the error on the 30d)

Most importantly, do you think he will honour 12 month warranty on it? Given the fact that i'm STILL waiting on the mack warranty for said D200?

It's very interesting that you have had this problem with a Transcend card. December last year, just after getting my 30D, my Transcend card failed on me as well. It sounds like the same error.

I never bothered with a warranty on it, in my case it would have involved dealing with HK, and for the price of a new Sandisk Extreme III, I figured that it wouldn't be worth it.

These days I refuse to use any media other then Sandisk, which seems to be superior then other brands. This extends to USB flash drives, and all flash memory.

I have 3 Transcend cards. Not one of them has failed on me yet, either on a D70s or a D200.

Of course, I don't shoot critical stuff that I depend on for a living. For that, it may well be worth the peace of mind buying the top quality brand name items. But FWIW, I haven't had a problem with the Transcend cards.

I've been using a 2gb Transcend card (the green label one) since December,
No trouble with it (so far), but everytime I say this about a piece of equipment, it fails shortly after.

question...before you start shooting do you format the cards incamera?

You are saying the cam cannot read the card?
Did you see the images when you chimp during the shot?
You should be able to recover the images via some software..can't remember name.
Can you access images/download via a card reader?

I have several Trancend cards and have no problem with them,I guess this doesn't help you much though.

Several Transcends here, all working fine in Nikon bodies.

I have had several transcend cards with no problems.
That being said, when I did have a problem (with a Ridata card) I used PC Inspector to get the files back and it worked well (it's freeware). http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm

I have a 4gig transcend that thought it was a 2 gig for about 6 months, and then reset itself to a 4 gig .....
maybe they are just possessed ???? see if it helps to call it 'your pretty' and stroke it in a gentle fashion ????
On a serious note though, when I contacted Transcend, they told me there was no warranty in Australia ..... contact Birdy is my advice

If the card contains all the images you capture on the day...

DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD

Use some recovery software to get it back.....

In my D2x, I have used a combination of 2, 4 & 8GB Transcend CF cards will no problem at all (18 month period). I always format the CF cards in the camera before next shoot.

I would have been surprised if he didn't, but then again I have been surprised a lot recently. Keep us all up to date on this issue, it is always good to get feedback on vendors. If you have problems I suggest contacting John (Sir Tristram) at Digitalslr, John was domiciling and endorsing Thanh's activities in December, we weren't.

Try GetDataBack for NTFS, well worth the money as it's worked every time that I've needed to recover data from failed HDD's.

A silly question, put do programs like that work on HDDs that aren't recognised by the computer anymore? Or does that prevent the program from 'seeing' it, thus no good?

We have found a company in sydney who will do it, and if they cant get it back you dont pay, but they apparently have a very high success rate...

Hopefully he gets it all back ok

If there's a physical problem (e.g. dead drive controller, head or spindle) then there's no way for software to recover the data. If the drive is physically OK but the filesystem on it is corrupted, that's where software can work magic...

Similar experiences to the majority here - I have a few Transcends and have only ever had 1 problem. About 4 months ago my D200 refused to play when i put one of my cards in and it turned out the card was corrupt; I used SanDisk's RescuePro (on OS X) which comes free with their cards and recovered all the files no probs, formatted the card in the computer then reformatted it in the camera and no hiccups since.

We use predominantly SanDisk's in the Canon's at work and they are generally reliable but don't seem to like being used in different bodies - ie, swap it from one Canon EOS 1Ds to another and it will often go frrt on you!

Haven't tried the same with the Transcends tho.

I had 3 Transcend cards and they all failed at one time or another. I could generally get most of the files back with RescuePro but it gave me such a nasty feeling that I dumped them into the round file.

I would avoid them at all costs!!!!

Memory is sooooo cheap now why would you risk them

Hi Kyle, Did you manage to recover the images? Did you get the card replaced under warranty?

Friend sent the card off to a company in sydney, $150 if they can save the photos, they lost 3 out of 500, so bloody awesome strike rate!

Card was a writeoff though...is in transit to thanh as i type...

His income from the day outweighed the cost of recovery, which is good..

With D2x, I use 2 x 8 Gb Transcend CF cards, swapping them around as I download them. So far no hiccups or problems in the last 12 months.

Up here, the heat & humidity will test everything out

But as stated before the "trick" seems to be to dedicate the cards with a body and always format card in body.

Before formatting a card I always check & ensure the pics can be opened (in CS2) on a notebook or PC & back up to external HD's.

So far so good.

I forgot to mention, the only time I have had problems with CF cards was when using a portable hard drive (PS7 I think, with AA rechargeable batteries), when the voltage drops errors can occur as I found out.

The ones with the Lithium Ion battery seem to perform the most reliably,

e.g. Epson P2000. But still no substitute for a notebook methinks

agree with downloading to a laptop....... I always do this on location and backup to an 80gig Lacie usb brick....... and if time permits also to DVD after checking images on PSCS2, as it is much easier to do a reshoot while you are there, than having to go back......

I only have Transcend cards (1-2 4-8 GB ) and never have had a problem
