I don't have any particular experience with Pelicans (except trying to photograph the flying type ), but it seems more logical to put them in vertically if the case is deep enough.

Otherwise, you are losing too much surface area and therefore reducing the number of lenses that you can fit in.

Depends on the case you have. I put mine in horizontally because I have a couple of 1500's. They aren't deep enough to put the lenses in vertically. I watched, helpless out the window of a QANTAS jet, as the luggage monkey threw my pelican case onto the conveyor. The lenses were okay though. Lucky!

With regards to glue, I just use craft glue, but a word of warning. Glue the stuff LONG before you'll use the case. I made the mistake of glueing about 2 days before. The small amount of evaporating liquid corroded the screws in my lens. Lesson, make sure the glue has well and truly cured. (and possible, don't store gear in pelican cases).

I store my 20d attached to a 17-85IS lens plus a 50mm (up and down) plus a 70-200 (lengthwise).

I didnt bother re-gluing the foam and it still holds ok.

i have th 1510 but not with the pull out foam i have the padded insets which are better for rearranging compartments

I have the Pelican 1614 (which is the 1610 with the padded dividers). I would highly getting the padded dividers!!!! You can fit more in IMO, and you have greater flexibility with your configurations.

All my lenses are stored vertically except for my 70-200VR, which jsut won't fit unless it is lying flat.

Probablu best to bear in mind that a case - especially one like a Pelian - is for tranporting your gear from there to here, and while you're here, it should be in a storage solution, not a transport one.

Though I admit my peli case spends most of its time as a storage box. Airtight, tough as hell, spacious... what's not to like?? The alternative would have been to get a dry box or similar... and I didn't really have the space for both.

losfp - that is an impressive gear load for one case. I would be worried about it going missing though.

losfp - you forgot to mention the crane needed to move the Pelican

I do agree tho’ - I have always been sorry at disposing of my Pelican cases - one for storage and the other (smaller) for location work.

Good question...

If the lens should be mounted vertically and you mount it "vertically" when the case is horizontal, you would need to store the case horizontally.

Why wouldn't I "store" equipment in this case?
Is this a condensation/moisture issue?
I would leave the case open, ie; lid ajar for air circulation.

I personally keep teh case shut as much as possible (as it is airtight), with silica gel packets in the corners to absorb the excess moisture. Works fine for me as a storage solution I keep it horizontal on a set of drawers in the wardrobe in my study/computer room. That way it is easy to open it up any time to grab gear.
