BBC harvesting royalty free images for free

Postby surenj on Sat Jun 16, 2007 5:05 pm

Check this BBC request....

What do you guys think? IS there any advantages for a photographer to give away his images to the BBC to be use as they please? or have I got it all wrong?

Well, it is the BBC and not some evil commercial channel. It would be nice to give back to the BBC a little something for all the entertainment they have given me over the years for (relatively) free.

However I'm still not going to.

Hmm I'm not sure about this one. They are limiting their rights and not trying to get the copyright, but they could, for example, publish it a BBC book and make money from an image without paying the photographer. The real question to me is what is driving them to make the request. It may be benign (just trying to provide a platform for photogs to display their work) or it may be an attempt to create their own royalty free stock library.

My view - trust no one
