Starting to get slightly annoyed with the IT set up at College...

What I am after is a Linux Box with mysql PHP etc... that I can run my own scripts on yadda yadda... prob need at least 10G of space and at least 100MB per month traffic...

Any idea how much something like that costs??

I don't think you'll get fast enough upload speeds for a server on wireless.

Scott,

What Leigh said. There are three issues with wireless connecti0ons - narrow outbound bandwidth, plus the lack of a static IP, p[lus the increased latency that a wireless connection will have, compared with a fixed wire connection.

None of these are absolute dealbreakers, but they can be issues.

Can you use a different host, as in a real ISP?

Who is acting as your domain registrar; what about them?

registra has nothing to do with my ISP..

I use DynDNS for free DNS...

The downside of living in College is its their ISP (aarnet) or none... actually its not the ISP that is the problem it is the college side of the wire (some of the accounting software they use I could write better and my code is horrid to boot!)

No I might formulate a couple of ideas... I have a more reliable place on campus I might con the local IT guy into letting me stick a box there....
