This must be the greatest joke and jackass I've seen on the net about the D3... and yet from someone apparently an IT geek who wrote this... (notice all the 'versions') lol
Full-frame AND a crop factor... in the same rumour!!!
(pssst! I hear it gets 14 miles to the gallon AND carries Hardon Karmon speakers AND is backwards compatible with Playstation 1 and 2 games!!) Pentax istDS+K10D. Pentax 50mm f1.4, Sigma 10-20mm, Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro, Kit Lenses. http://www.redbubble.com/people/berndt2
Nikon does have many divisions, for example in the US and Canada, that are know as Nikon Optical Inc.

This is too good to pass up ...
I think we need to add to the feature list for this mythical beast. let the games begin. (should I move this to humour?) g.

I heard it is going to be PID'ed so the user can set the espresso brew temp (but it won't accept Starbucks beans).
Apparently, it will also have a camera phone built in. Regards, Patrick

I hear 'D-Type' actually means it is a new multi-connector that is also compatible with Canon lenses. Steve.

Yes, I heard that too, on DPreview. Apparently it's a 'transformer' that when activated turns the D3 into a reasonably priced compact car big enough for two people and their luggage. Steve.

It'll be starring in a new series with David Hasselhoff, "Knight Shooter". In this series, Hasselhoff plays Ansel Knight, intrepid forensic photographer by day, crime-solving society snapper by night.
The Nikon D3 (otherwise known as "KITT-LENS") detects molecular-level clues at the crime scene with its built-in scanning electron microscope, directs Knight to the criminals' favourite nighttime hangouts while maintaining a brisk line of banter, and uncovers their secret identities using a sophisticated anti-aliasing filter. KITT-LENS has an annoying habit of blinking its red-eye reduction flash while talking, so a blinded Knight accidentally steps on to a busy street and is run over by a black sports car. --Chuan "When the only tool you have is Thor's hammer, every problem looks like a supervillain." -- Julian Sanchez
Actually, I'm going to wait for the D9.
Then I'll have a camera that doubles as a bulldozer! I should be able to take it pretty much wherever I like. TFF (Trevor)

Apparently, there was an accident in space 35,000,000 miles away. A piece of the debris from an unknown explosion fell into the Japanese airspace. Japanese researchers found this mysterious debris to be a technological marvel. A piece of equipment known to be able to capture light beyond human eye's precision and clarity. It's actual use has yet to be determined, but a Japanese optical company have bought out this equipment with a price of 1,000 billion Yens to manufacture a superior image capturing platform. The Nikon D3 is then announced a month after the bought out of this unknown debris fell from the space.

Although I shoot Pentax, I think I have my finger remarkably close to the pulse when I say that I have it on excellent authority that the D3 comes with custom 22inch chrome rims as standard.

The D3 will be supplied with a unique new strap that, when the camera is hung backwards (ie the strap around the front of the neck and the camera resting on the back) and put into VE (Vibration Enhancement) mode - will provide a soothing swedish massage.
Laurie,
Hope you're ok. I have it on good authority that the D3 will ship with three tugboats to help you to remove it from any reefs thet it may happen to get stuck on, but that you'll be free to otherwise use those tugs for any purpose you consider worthwhile. g.

I have it on good authority that it comes with a built in motor-drive and has a resolution equal to that of light. You will be able to shoot a landscape and then zoom into the image to render a gnat on a leaf sharply enough to make an A1 sized print.

Does anyone know if I can run Super 8mm film through it? How about 4x5 and 8x10 sheets?

Looks like announcement date for multiple new nikon products is August 22-24.
2 days before that major Japanese event. Looks like there are high profile press gatherings in multiple countries during this timeframe and several high profile magazines are talking about attending these events.... so unless they are all lying..... Fingers crossed. Nikon D300, Nikkors 70-200 VR, 17-55, 50 1.4,18-200 VR etc

Hi Gary.... no, I am off to NZ on Thursday to help with the judging of the InFocus professional photography awards, then I am going to the lower South Island for a couple of weeks to do some work on a project down there. Will be shooting 120 black and white film in all! With luck I will get lots of snow to photograph but then again, the last time I went there in August to do photography on this project I spent most of the time in a t-shirt enjoying sunshine.... never try and guess the weather in NZ!
THAT South Island! 120 Mono? Yummy. What hardware and stock will you be shooting on? SOunds like a lot of fun ... and some real photography. g.

I have a couple of Hasselblads.... a 503 and an SWC (Super Wide Camera). Between them they have a 80mm lens and a 50mm lens while the Hasselbad SWC has a 38mm fixed lens... they are both great cameras and the wonderful thing is that accessories are finally starting to become affordable for them. Film stock for the trip will be T-Max 400 although I might shoot a little colour for good measure. The only difficult part at the moment is that I do not have a darkroom to print up the work.... given that I am working towads an exhibition in NZ next year there is a reasonable chance that I might scan the negs on a Flextight and then print them out digitally. Too many decisions!
Oh wonderful, we'll have the announcement of the new Coolpix line. So highly anticipated...

If you need someone to help - let me know (we have a Bronnie ETRs/Rollei TLR and a few rolls of Ilford HP5 left in the fridge). If you could cover my expenses, that would be appreciated. Regards, Patrick

I just had a premonition. Assuming that the D3 will copy Canon's "live-view" feature...
I always doubted the usefulness of it (I prefer to use the viewfinder instead of the LCD right underneath), but hey, what if the camera had a socket for an external LCD? That would add tremendous value, IMHO. The possibilities are endless. Just an idle thought... Cheers Steffen. lust for comfort suffocates the soul
Canon and Nikon both issuing press releases within the week (assuming Nikon does that is). Based on history, we'll most probably see the Canon products on the shelf next week if not already; and Nikon's will be due to appear in extremely limited quantities come July 2008.
Thom Hogan's hinting and round-about "speculations" coupled with the rumours from multiple sources, sort of suggests Nikon will do something crazy wild with their new cameras, esp in regards to sensor tech. I just hope it's a more practical success than their LBCAST sensor was.
I doubt that there's a real need for VR at that range. g.

The quote from Thom at http://bythom.com/2007comments.htm "Curiously, what we're about to get appears to be what photographers (other than me) asked for: ISO improvements. By taking the pro body to a full frame, improving the sensor technology, and not pushing the pixels too far upwards, high ISO noise should be relatively well controlled. Indeed, if rumors are correct, Nikon will be allowing you to go to ISOs you didn't know existed" For me personally though, hish ISO isn't a big dead - 90% of my work is at base ISO
Just thinking aloud ....
Shouldn't a smaller number of photosites also have a minor but beneficial effect on the vignetting we see on FF sensors? g.
