The quality of images captured by phones is improving rapidly, along with multi-function devices like the PDA. Herald journalists are now issued with PDAs capable of taking and sending text and photographs, when a few short years ago a brick phone in the company car was considered exciting new technology.
And as the quality improves, so does the potential for stretching the boundaries. In an ad campaign he devised for phone makers Sony Ericsson, US photographer Robert Clark took 50 days to create a photo essay documenting the diversity of American life. The photographs were published in a book, Image America, and formed an exhibition in New York City.
