howdy guys, got some really cool 8ft lightstands from the states the other day,

was just wondering what kind of adaptor you need to get so ya can angle the flashes downwards?

I'd guess that would depend on what sort of fittings they already have. Any more details you can give us on what you got?

manfrotto have a big range........ or barton for a local product, if they are still in business....... and baltronics, L&P, Borge.......

do you mean a flash like an SB800?

if so, you need an "umbrella bracket", like these

you will also need to buy a hotshoe bracket to screw onto the spigot (unless you are using a cable, like the SC28/29 they just screw straight on to the 1/4" spigot.

sorry i forgot to mention that, it has a 1/4" thread on the top. same as the thread on the bottom of your camera for tripod mounting etc.

but it has a brass (or other) spigot on the top right, about 10mm (3/8"), just below the 1/4" thread?

then the umbrella bracket clamps over that, and rotates, and tilts...

And usually that spigot is double-ended. If you remove it from its mount, it'll probably be 3/8 on the other end.

The spigot, being removable, can be replaced by any other - these are standard fittings - so you just get what's needed.
