Hi guys
Tomorrow I'm off to Broome for a wedding and holiday and have been advised that the sunsets off Cable Beach are fantastic.Can you guys who are landscape experts give me some tips.I guess I'm just being lazy but a starting point would be helpful.

Don't overlook the foreground. Something else to look at or a silhouette can add much more interest to a sunset image.

Oh, yeah, Broome has very nice sunsets.

good tripod, some graduated filters if you can get some, cable or IR shutter release. If you don't have filters, make sure you bracket your shots so you can use HDR when you get back. A good dose of patience will help. Even after the sun is down wait a while, enjoy and watch the colours change even more

Andre - I'm no landscape expert but don't be afraid to keep the sutter open for several seconds JUST before/during and even especially/especially sunset

Don't look directly at the Sun.

Take a fishing rod and watch out for the old nudies!

the camel tours that happen around sunset should be a great silhouette.

meter from a bit above the sun so it is a bit dark and the colours should really deepen.
take lots of shots with the camera at f5.6 - f8 on a tripod and once your in the ballpark keep slowing it down as the light changes fast.

A good tripod, patience, and a very wide or very long lens. And time, be there early and scout for foregrounds and backgrounds... Get a place to settle down and shoot away on tripod.

The long lens can create beautiful silhouettes with a big egg yolk behind, or the wide angle to put a foreground into your photos.

As all mentioned above, bracket shots at 1.0EV intervals and HDR them on PP, will be very interesting.

Don't ever leave until it is absolute pitch dark. When sun is just no longer seen on horizon, several second exposure can take you to another dimension!!

Arrived in Broome just as the sun set over the ocean ,the plane did a bank over the ocean and then landed, very spectatular. Broome looks a very interesting place although to be honest I've only been from the airport to the bar.
Wedding on Cable Beach tomorrow and a chance to follow all the good advise .
Alan we will definitely catch up for some Coopers,do you need a bed.

I am just back from a month holiday starting in Broome and ending in Darwin, If you have a few days stay in Broome you should get some great sunsets, Gantheaume Point, Southern end of Cable Beach and Riddell Beach have some great rock formations and colours, don,t forget to look behind you when your are watching the sunset the effect on the rocks is sensational. I think it was Arthur Streeton who said the best sunsets in Australia are in the East.

The best advice I can give you for getting good shots in Broome is when you are leaving the motel make sure your camera bag is done up BEFORE picking it up off the bed.
