Ditch the tripods and supports, ditch the f/2.8 glass, and be very selective about which primes are taken.

I often travel with photography being a secondary concern, ie. I don't usually go away specifically on a photo tour; so everything I choose to carry is mainly geared towards weight reduction.

I have an upcoming trip to the east coast of the US for 7 weeks. My anticipated kit:

D200, 18-70, 50/1.8, 70-300VR. 1 spare battery, 1 CPL filter. 2xCF cards.
Undecided about MB-D200 grip.

But as I'll be passing thru the international photographer's mecca (B&H Photo Video Pro Audio), and with the strong Aussie dollar, I may return with a much heavier kit than I departed with.

weights not a problem in the 4WD but if theres walking/climbing involved then the K100D, DA18-55/3.5 and F70-210/4 is a very light weight and compact kit that fits in my small bag.
