Thank God for Film

I just wanted to vent.

I've been in the market for a while now for a new camera to compliment my D2H. I want something with lot's of megapixels and good dynamic range so i can get some nice and sexy landscape imagery to the standard that i demand.

But...

With the D200 in short supply globally and the D2Xs just a bit too much for my budget, i have resorted to continuing with film.

Fortunately i have an F5 still. I don't really want to shoot my entire upcoming trip to Lake Mungo on a camera that's just not up to it. (D2H)

Bloody Nikon, either release a new body or get that D200 production line running again....

Not for landscapes. The 4.1 megapixels are quite noticeable on A3+ prints. It has come up short on several occasions and leaves absolutely no room for creative cropping.

Don't worry Matt, I'll be keeping the D2H. It is still very capable at what it does best.

Even the D200 struggles with landscapes. I think we need to hang out for about 24 million pixels before we can start serious digital landscaping.
So what's this 'film' stuff you're talking about? :D

Mmmm, 39MP digital back....... I doubt i will ever be able to afford one of those.

Matt, i agree that 10MP will struggle so i haven't bought one yet. Besides, i am really waiting for a sensor that is truly at least TWICE as big as the one i have, that will be more than 12.5 MP. (If i follow that philosophy through, my next camera after this on will need to be about 50MP - Scary.)

I wait in patience.
