Dome hair light?

Hi

I had a dome shaped hairlight that I used years ago. It was about the size of a tennis ball and may well have been a "slave". The question is, does anyone know what I am talking about :? and if so, do you know the proper name for it and where I may be able to get one? From memory, it only cost about $50.

I called them a snoot, as they come in different shapes....... and yes made for hair lights or back lights, depends on the make of flash for the different shapes

Yep, I've got one. Cost me $20 a few years ago s/h - I've seen them on ebay recently, branded Holga

Is that the one?

Cheers

A snoot is a shaping device ... basically a partial cone that has the pointy end chopped off, and it's through the missing pointy bit that the light is directed.

It helps to control light fall-off and/or bleed, allowing you to direct the light into an area (such as a model's hair) without necessarily focussing it.

That's not what I'm seeing referenced in digitor's post, nor is what I see Alicia asking about, although a snoot will do exactly what's being asked here.

Digitor, that's exactly what Alicia was referring to. Very portable, slave light that can be placed anywhere. I think Borges had them for a similar price without $14 postage.
