Tripod & Head question ( I know another one)....

I Know there have been so many tripod and head threads, but I guess that is becouse there aer so many tripod and head combinations...

I am still reading through them all but my question is would you recommend spending more money on the legs or the head?

I have about $300.00 to spend at the moment on this so I want to get something that will last. So I guess do I spend the $300 on a good set of legs ( I know you can spend a lot more on legs but I just can't) or do I get a cheap pair of legs (or a monopod) now and a decent head and then buy some more legs later on?

Or should I not get anything at the moment (or just a cheap mono) and keep saving for something decent?

Your replies are much appreciated.

Woody,

I would suggesting getting the best legs that you can at this stage. A bad head on a good set of legs will have the potential to yield far better results than a good head on a poor set of legs, IMHO.

Putting it another way, a good head might actually be too heavy for a poor set of legs, and be quite unstable and unusable. At least with a reasonable set of legs, you should have some sort of a stable platform from which to start.

Woody,

As Gary has stated, get the best legs you can afford as you can always upgrade the head later when you have more cash.

With AUD300 I would suggest looking towards the Manfrotto maybe the 055ProB. The head to suite will cost approximately AUD100 extra(Manfrotto brand).

Thanks for the reply guys.

This is what I was thinking so good to get the same responses.

The Manfrotto 055ProB is on the cards (after reading Killa Kola's thread). I have to take a trip out to Vanbar on the weekend to see the different tripods.

Also if anyone has a second hand head that would like to sell cheap let me know :D
