Birddog,

I suspect that you might be expecting Maxwell to price the camera based upon a US$-AU$ conversion rate?

Perhaps so, but probably from 12 months back, when it was around $0.50, rather than the current $0.69.

I suspect that your earlier estimation will be closer to the mark.

What is a equivalent 12mp full sensor Canon worth? I would imagine you would want to have the two prices within cooee of each other.

Last time I looked, the EOS1Ds (11MP, full frame) was around Au$15K.

Michael's in Melbourne are listing it (along with the other high end Canons, including the Mk2) as simply being "over $9000".

Anything under Au$10K would make this a very competive camera, in terms of Oz pricing.

If Maxwell were to do something daring (and drag themselves into the 21st century) and price this camera on the (realistic) basis of US$ conversion rates, it be almost a steal.

I'm sure it'll be priced similarly to the D1X at $AU11k RRP, from 6 months ago.

I've seen the 1Ds for about AU$11k so it is comparable to the D1X.
