1.03 Firmware. Anybody installed it yet?

Postby Killakoala on Mon Feb 14, 2005 11:52 pm

I have notice that Nikon has released the 1.03 firmware on Jan 11 but i have not heard of anyone installing it yet.

Has anyone installed it yet?

The only problem it fixed was something very obscure and convoluted.
Steve.

Killa, I put it in, no problems, now have MLU, 12.4 megapixels, bigger viewfinder, etc.

Put it in on return from Thailand, nothing seemed to change, but hey I've got the latest firmware

I had a look at it. 1.03 appears to only address one issue - naming convention problems when shooting jpegs in modeII aRGB. Seeing as I do not shoot jpeg, I decided to give it a miss.

Cheers

I'm not to "fussy" about the new firmware 1.03 and it has nothing improve with the camera in quality, clarity and so on, so leave it for the next upgrade when it comes with ISO 10 and real MLU

Killa - go back to the groundbreaking thread started by Charlie Chalk on the 1.03 firmware. (Groundbreaking in that it was another D70users first in our history of discovery - pulled alot of attention from DPR and most didn't believe until it was announced a week later by Nikon). You'd see I was among the early adopters. Like the 1.02 version before - it could be said to address something I wouldn't see either - high shutter colour shift, cont shooting in medium jpg mode, improved simplified chinese menu options, etc. but I updated on the off chance that, like car manufacturers' servicing handbooks; it may address certain issues not documented.

Actually I've found NC4.2 made a bigger difference - high ISO colour noise has improved a sh^tload, and the noise reduction setting was turned off!

Onyx,
Check your u/g, you may have done something wrong  uninstall and re-upgrade, you may find some hidden treasures of the 1.03
Yes, of course, you'll need improved simplified chinese menu options cos you're not too far from your destinator  and it's targeting the China's population in mainland China, now or sooner will have the D70 in each of their household instead of the 300D

Birddog do you know something that we don't. Is there really a firmware update coming with reduced ISO?? Now wouldn't that be good. :D

I was just reading on another forum about the new update causing some increased noise - Has anyone else noticed this at all?

Georgie, here is a shot from last wednesday night, after the firmware upgrade with noise reduction off (not turned on). F8 at 5secs, was just playing with the 12-24 Sigma. Seems ok to me?

This Sigma lens is not VR and I say: Glen used tripod for this stunning shot, but there are terribly noise as Chris mentioned, cos the new upgraded firmware!

Yes, 5sec at F8, my hands aren't that steady, tripod all the way. I must say I am very happy with the Sigma 12-24 :D :D

Great shot - I like the composition. This is a really good example of what can be done with a quality 12-24 lens.

I think it shows the advantages of a 12-24 also Stubbsy. Here is another shot, taken 20 metres further back with the kit at 18mm, when you look at the right of the frame you can see how much more 6mm adds. Pier One isn't even on this shot. If they were taken from the same spot it would be even more. I do like the 12mm range on these cameras

I installed firmware upgrade 1.03 soon after release. Helped to fill in part of a Sunday morning from memory, and for a change didn't cost anything to do  .

Cheers,

I thoroughly enjoyed your Sydney Harbour gallery Glen. Nice.

As for the issue of more noise with the firmware update, I am inclined to think that that thread in DPR is just a lot of... noise.

Cheers

That's a stunning pic of the bridge Glen. Stick a blue "First Prize" ribbon on it.

Glen.

I only see one issue with the pic taken with the 12-24.

Sigma - was that not some sort of old car?

Cheers,

Darryl.

Brilliant photo there Glen :D

Just shows you how capable the D70, lens and tripod is, in the hands of a very experienced photographer.

Very inspiring indeed

Cheers and thanks for sharing

Matt, these days it has proven cheaper to rebadge Hyundais and call them Skodas. Only problem is the old owners are complaining about the drop in quality
