CCD dust - advice needed

See attached images ... intriguing thing is that the dust spot is only visible when im focussed on infinity or very far away. if i pull back the focus the spot smears outward and even at 10 metres its not visible at all.

This is occuring on 2 different lenses.

Any ideas? i didnt think the focal distance would matter to CCD dust?

First I will ask the really obvious question:
Does this occur with more than one lens?

Doh... you already answered that...

Hmmm... Have you tried giving it a good blow with a blower? f/10 is quite open for dust to be that visable

no, i havent ... would rather get it serviced. It happens across all apertures, exposures ... but only when focussed on somethign close or at infinity. which strikes me as odd.

Darb

Looks like a dust bunny to me. From what I can tell this is when they are most obvious - shots of the sky at infinity.

Darb, looks like and sounds like dust bunnies. From the action man lifestyle you lead and in your photos, I am surprised you don't get one every week. Easy to get out, will only take half an hour or so the first time. Do a search will let you know how to do it, or maybe a WA member can show you

Certainly looks like a DB...

You have a second one right at the bottom of the frame about 60% across as well... I've seen dust bunnies at F10 before...

can someone explain how / why aperture makes such a profound difference?

Glen : what lifestyle? what are you talking about. I only shoot photos of my pet cats and rarely leave my house.

It's worth giving it a clean.

I went from:

to:

I know there are still 3 spots of dust, but they are pretty small and virtually invisible when not auto leveled.

Hi Darb, i can see another top right of frame as well, it's faint but it's there and well i had a pic that i took of some wind turbine generators and had about 30 odd dust bunnies all over it.
I too had this oh know what am i to do living out in country area it's hard to have to send camera away so soon. So i had a read of the sites about cleaning the sensor and well, i went to worrlies got me some plastic spatulars that they use in cooking cut it too size, and had the pec pads and the cleaning fluid and well just did it in a few mins. Took longer to rap the bloody pec pad on the spatular than it took to clean the sensor LOL, then thought to myself hell that wasnt so bad after all, 5 minute job was done with no fuss.
Cheers
John

You got dust bunnies and you gotta learn how to clean them off yourself. Once you've done it a couple times then you'll wonder what the fuss was all about.
