Any predictions for PMA?

Any thoughts what might appear in PMA?

My guesses are a D50 to counter the Rebel, a couple more VR lenses, maybe one pro like 28-70 2.8 and one consumer, and my out there prediction, they might announce a D2XX with huge mega pixels to be available in the next year and take the king of mp crown for 35mm back.

Anyone else like to make a prediction?

A replacement for the D100
Possibly a range of telephoto zoom and primes in the DX format to lighten the weight

The main thing is we have only 4 or 5 days to wait and see what happens

Think you are spot on with the D100 replacement, will be interesting to see what it is like

My prediction:
More like a d100 replacement

My hope/prediction:
A nice range of fast DX primes

Nikon are being very quite...

MHD, I agree, very quiet, makes me think there may be a big announcement. The F6 caught all by surprise

I posted mine several weeks ago.

A D100 replacement, most likely with the D2X 12MP sensor, and WiFi.

No replacement or changes for the D70, nor any new low-end DSLR cameras. IOQW, no D90, D45, D50, or anything of the sort.

A couple of interesting things in the PHD market, perhaps with WiFi on a couple of surprisingly low-end cameras.

The Nikon announcements should be made within the next day or three.

Gary, if the D100 replacement had 12.4 mp and still had at least the 3fps of the D70, I think I could see myself with one.

Glen,

If it has the sensor of the D2X, with the reduced size mode, you might end up with maybe a choice of 4+fps @ 12MP with a crop factor of 1.5, or 8 - 10 fps @ 6.8MP, with a crop factor of 2x.

My only concern with this setup is that the D2X hasn't yet hit the streets, and that's the spanner in the works for it; would they announce a second camera using the same sensor when the first one's not yet in full scale production?

But the facts remain that the D100 is now 3 years old, and it's seriously in need of a new heart implant to help it compete with the newer offerings in that market segment.

Looking at this from another perspective, short of announcing another new sensor (why would they?) what other sensor could they use?

D70a - with IR filter removed. Functionality otherwise completely the same as existing D70 :P

Vertical release module for the D70, with USB hookup.

I think there might be next gen VR on the ultra-long tele primes. 400mm, 500mm and/or 600mm.

Consumer telephoto zoom with VR, maybe slightly faster - to counter the middle class 70-200/4L. (Piece of shit optically, but because it's "L" it sells like hotcakes).

Sony have a nice 8mp sensor and Nikon has gotten in the habit of using Sony's sensors.

Leigh, that was my guess for the new D100, would equal Canon and not take any glory from the D2X, but I hope Gary is right

IIRC that sensor is for the PHD set, and thus too small fo DSLRs.

IAC, 8MP is hardly enough of a leap to make Nikon users jump to the D100 replacement. It's "who can be bothered with that?" material, and nothing more.

12MP would be the minimum, especially as a CMOS rather than a CCD.

For D70, the vertical grip with TWO battery compartments, USB socket (as the other will be used for the grip), a cable release socket, SD card socket and....wait for it..........Wifi..... :)

No doubt there'll be a bunch of new lenses in each category. Hopefully a few VR 1.4f lenses. Now that would be cool.

The D100 announcement....... hmm, not sure if that will happen at PMA....

Then again, i know nothing....

Would Nikon ever use a Canon sensor? What about the 11mp sensor that exists, or even Kodak's 14mp sensor?

When the D100 was introduced, Nikon's flagship D1X was only 5.5MP, and the former came in at 6MP; so by this logic, what's to say there isn't a 14MP+ D200, eclipsing the D2X in resolution?! ;)

Gary, I agree 8mp is not worth changing for. If they do go 12mp in the D100, look for the D2XX with huge megapixels to really make a model line differentation

Killa a vr 1.4 would be cool

Hence my logic.

Nikon, if that happened, might have a holding position for the studio market with an alternative to the big Canon for a hell of a better price.

The fact that the D2X hasn't even hit the streets yet. I don't see the logic of diffusing the excitement of a product that has yet to get a price tag. Right now the D2X is the shiznit, and we all can't wait to run to our local stores and point it at the counter sales person. If the D100 got 14 mp, those same people would just sit around downloading pics of it from the internet.

Even if Nikon could do it I don't think that they would through sheer economics. One particular company dumbs their cheapest model with software so they can price the next highest model up and increase volume. Car manufactorers do it too. Nikon would want (I imagine) to milk the next level up first (8mp).

As many of you can probably tell, the above strongly resembles hot air protuding from my backside.

That may bring a few new punters in, but I doubt many D100 or even D70 users would spend the bucks for such a minor upgrade. I wont be opening my wallet until an affordable 12MP comes on the market.

Sony does manufacture a 10MP CCD. That might be a far out possibility for the D100 replacement - more MP than the 20D but still leaving the D2X as the Nikon flagship at 12MP.

Mind you, if Nikon were to bring a cheaper 12mp or 14mp camera, it still wouldn't have the performance or level of features that something like a D2x brings to the table.

The D2x has and will always be for the professionals, much like the full-frame Canon that it's essentially competing with.

However he WAS online when I made the above post but chose not to reply (actually he probably didn't notice it and went to bed, but lets not allow facts to get in the way of a good conspiracy)......

The plot thickens !!!!!!!

I predict that Nikon will release a new set of VR lenses. Taking the VR technology to the next extreme, Nikon will release a set of macro lenses that require no tripods.

And in fact it will dawn all of 5 different times in the USofA, but it's only an hour or so till midnight Eastern, which would be a good time for any embargo to expire.

My question is:
What are you expecting?how long the new releases will reach your hand? and finally can you afford it? or just hear it and dream
Nothing in lens, announced this PMA will be available in the next 6 months or a year, then another annoucing, then another problems: back focus, soft, not good quality, plasticky, too dear! etc....
We're not PJs, and not using these items for our mainstream income or just plain hobby, so why should we wonder much about!

Birdie;

Was that directed at me? I know i'm one of the more fickle folk here on the forum as far as selected a lens and sticking with it.. I'm just curious as to what i'll be saving for for the next 12 months or so..

Order for 80-400 going in after the weekend regardless of what lens is announced.. unless I drink through part of my lens fund!!!

Platinum, save ya money more and put in an order for a 70-200VR :)
