Want to see your wife and daughter leap backwards off a couch and break the Olympic record for the 100m sprint PLUS the high jump record in scrambling up onto a kitchen bench while screaming like a banshee? Just have one of these little fellas crawl across the floor in a darkened room while watching TV!

He's about 20cm long and 1cm thick. I know what it is - let's see how many posts it takes to ID it (I'm guessing 2)

If it has scales and looks like a snake it should be DEAD.

Some good responses there but none right so far (Steve's was the closest, followed by....I think... Gary!) PS - I nearly carried out John's idea inadvertantly in the first nanoseconds of the exchange as standing on the critter wouldn't have done it any favours. I missed it by a few centimetres so opted to put it back where it belongs rather than sending it to oblivion. Gathering it up without hurting or stressing it too much was the hard part but un upturned tupperware container and lid slipped in carefully under said reptile did the trick.

Hmmm ...

This is a tough one, Simon. :)

This is getting interesting. I really thought you'd have nailed it by now but I notice there's been little input from our resident wildlife gurus.

It's not a snake and it's got some very commonly seen relatives.

Well, it is obviously a skink. My guess, without looking up Cogger, would be a species of three-toed skink.

Looks to me like a Veraux Skink nomolopus verauxii.

Usually live in compost heaps and eat slaters and little bugs. That's my guess anyway.......especially when I have a Reptile Expert sitting next to me at work :D What do I get if I am right? SB-800 maybe....

I should really proof read what I type before posting it!

Can't really blame me, I'm just a Public Sevant and it was knock off time when I noticed the post. I didn't want to be seen by my work mates working for free or doing extra, it's against our work ethics ...... :D

Right you are Rel.

ATJ was getting close though but Ryan gets a big raspberry for using Neil !!

(You shouldn't be looking at the forum during work hours anyway - goodness knows I never do.......)
