Some good responses there but none right so far (Steve's was the closest, followed by....I think... Gary!) PS - I nearly carried out John's idea inadvertantly in the first nanoseconds of the exchange as standing on the critter wouldn't have done it any favours. I missed it by a few centimetres so opted to put it back where it belongs rather than sending it to oblivion. Gathering it up without hurting or stressing it too much was the hard part but un upturned tupperware container and lid slipped in carefully under said reptile did the trick.

This is getting interesting. I really thought you'd have nailed it by now but I notice there's been little input from our resident wildlife gurus.

It's not a snake and it's got some very commonly seen relatives.

Well, it is obviously a skink. My guess, without looking up Cogger, would be a species of three-toed skink.

Looks to me like a Veraux Skink nomolopus verauxii.

Usually live in compost heaps and eat slaters and little bugs. That's my guess anyway.......especially when I have a Reptile Expert sitting next to me at work What do I get if I am right? SB-800 maybe....
