Eclipse fluid use by date?

Hi all,

I haven't had to clean my sensor on my D70 for absolutely ages. I've still got my pec pads and Eclipse fluid from like 2 years ago. Does the Eclipse fluid go off or lose it's touch? I'm just about to clean my sensor and want to make sure it's still okay before I put gunk all over the sensor :)

Eclipse is apparently reagent grade methanol. If you've kept it in a well sealed container so it hasn't absorbed too much water, it will still be fine for sensor cleaning. It may though, have dissolved or absorbed some components from the bottle it's kept in - glass is the best for keeping stuff like this in. You can test for this by drying out a drop on a clean microscope slide, and seeing what residue results.

Cheers

ps Sometimes it's not easy (in a home environment) to get a slide sufficiently clean....

Thanks.. I don't have a slide but i've tried wiping it on a smooth surface and it evaporates quickly enough so hopefully it wil still be okay. I guess in the worst case scenario, the fluid is contaminated and I put streaks and crap on the sensor and the I buy new fluid and remove it. Hopefully it won't come to that though :)
