Who likes Grain?

OK people... I can tell you with certainty the new Nikon D3 and D300 will not have noise but instead at the high ISOs they will have grain... much like you would notice on print film many years ago. As I have already mentioned, if you drop the D3 into monochrome mode and crank up the ISO all the way to 25,600 the image takes on a slightly reticulated, grainy appearance that is rather similar to T-Max 3200 and yet the detail and contrast are still good.

So here is my question to you.... who likes grain and who would actually incorporate it into their photography if it was an option? What are your thoughts?

Cheers all, Ants

Grain? I prefer single malt

I do find myself adding grain to pictures sometimes (well, not really adding, but PPing to bring it out). I reckon it works well with some images (esp monochromatic ones but not only), and not so well with others.

Cheers
Steffen.

I'm anti-noise (blotchy), but some nice grain can't hurt.

hows the saturation looking at those higher isos?
