Not I, as I don't want to be a eunuch just yet....

No seriously its very drool worthy, but I'd need to be making serious money from my images before I could justify the expense.

I'm still using the d70!
As much as I would love to get new gear, I think that I will be stuck with it until it dies.
Hopefully that will be once the house is paid off and the kids have finished school so I can afford to get what I want.

Like new OS systems I wait until a product has a proven record of reliability. Will buy a D3 in the third quarter of 2008

Have been tempted, I had a play with one @ Nikon Lidcombe........fantastic LCD quality, jumps out at you.
Can't justify the cost, I'll be getting the D300 though

Cheers
Marc

I have my D2Xs here on Ebay, if anyone is interested.

Ordered, should be here at the end of the month :-) Lucky for me I had my suppliers home number so I was on top of the list the second it was announced overseas.

Does anyone know if the 24-70 and other new lense are going to be released at the same time as the D3 and D300? I haven't seen any release date info about the lenses around that's all...

will be released the same time, although the longer primes might be hard to get if you're after them.

I've certainly had enough enquiries to suggest that people will be buying from Poon. It's simply a matter of waiting until he has stock.

D300, hopefully very soon. D3 later.

Just note that at my workplace (Photo Continental), we have the D3 at around $7200. I don't know if we're going to do any price matching for it but we'll have to see...

oh. i'd love a d2xs.

finding myself shooting at lower and lower iso levels... ohhh one would be nice... my d200 and d2xs (mmmm autofocus), that would be a nice combination.

glass first though!

I shall wait before trading in the D2x, until the "first release bugs" are sorted (Firmware V1.2?) and the price comes down.
Grr! the wait! If only the D2x had the "noise free zone" that the D3 is reputed to have, the LCD screen, 2 x CF slots, double battery charger,HDMI, FF and live view...... then I would take it to the grave with me! :P

Meanwhile, to occupy the waiting time, I got from ebay a new D2H body, sealed in the box with 1y USA warranty for $1K delivered.
This will serve as a "sport / action / portrait shooter" and a back-up & 2nd body. (I hate lens changing, especially in the dusty conditions here)

9-10 months time, (D3Xs?) the plan is to sell both and upgrade maybe then

comment: I am not convinced yet, except for the higher ISO values obtained noise free, that D2X to D3 is worth the upgrade, perhaps the D4 will have greater than 12Mp's?, self cleaning sensor?.......
Anyway, have nearly a year to think about it!!

Not even the FF capabilities? Do you come from a film SLR background?

Hi! Gary,

Err, not really, in those days I was "point & shoot", I have had FF Vs DX etc explained to me a few times, and read about it, and as yet do not fully understand the advantages, with FF what the lense sees is what you get?, not a cropped (x 1.5) version? Also something to do with saturation & resolution?

On reflection, I was trying to say that with the results I am getting now (D2x) for the extra $'s I can't see the comparative value in the end product (pic quality). I am sure FF has an advantage, but I won't upgrade for awhile as said above.

What do you see as the advantage of FF V's DX? :)

Unless and until you can use FF with the full scope of the glass available, it's difficult to appreciate.

But a 24mm (my favourite film lens) reverts to being a 24mm lens.

with FF what the lense sees is what you get?, not a cropped (x 1.5) version?

Well, regardless of the crop factor, what the lens sees is what you get. It's just that, with a FF body and a lens to suit, you get to see more.

I suspect that is what you were trying to say ... :)

On reflection, I was trying to say that with the results I am getting now (D2x) for the extra $'s I can't see the comparative value in the end product (pic quality).

If you're hapy with what you're getting now, then that's a most important factor, and should not be discounted. I'm very happy with the results I get from the D200; I'm still struggling to get acceptable out of camera results with the 30D.

I should add that I try as much as possible to achieve satisfaction with minimal PP, btw. It should be good, in the camera. :)

I don't anticipate getting either of the new Nikon bodies in the immediate short term. But that might change once I get my hands on one. :)

What do you see as the advantage of FF V's DX? :)

For me it's an intangible thing, and using glass like the Sigma 10-20 helps me to deal with what I find lacking in the DX format. But there is something about getting the full angle of view from any given lens that I love, but there's no way that I can express that in words.

I played with the D3 at last weeks AIPP T-day....it feels and looks like a winner

The high iso images look awesome from the back LCD when I zoomed in.

I love the due card slot

For me, using the Nikkor 17-35 on both the D200 (1.5x crop) vs the f90x (FF film), I certainly appreciate the appeal of the new FF camera. For me, I don't often regret not having longer lenses.

In addition, the first 300,000 purchasers worldwide of the D3 and D300 will receive an offer for a free copy of Capture NX 1.3.

Saw this on Thoms website.

Wonder if this applies here in Aus

I sure hope it does. After all, if it's just a voucher for download or activation I see no reason why Aussies can't have it.
