What Photography Magazine do you subscribe too ???

I have bought monthly photog magazines now & then but cant find one i really like & would subscribe to on a monthly basis
I know i am always going to get more ads than content
But i would like to get the wealth of knowlage on this forum to see what is the most popular ???

I haven't subscribed to it but I buy Practical Photography when I see it. I like the style and they usually have some decent tutorials.

I must say that I think the poms have really got it together when it comes to magazines. Their guitar and mountain bike mags are by far the best imo

I subscribed to one a while ago (now lapsed), the name of which I have forgotten. I realised, after a while, that a large part of the non-advertising material was dedicated to equipment reviews. I find this a problem with a lot of the consumer based mags. I have no interest in the latest P&S, the latest Canon DSLR or Nikon 'consumer' DSLR (and would only have a passing interest in a review of, say, the D3 as I am not currently in the market for one).

The ones I do find of interest, although don't subscribe are Better Photography (Aust) and Black & White Photography (UK) - they seem to spend more time on technique and discussions on photography 'legends'.

I buy 2 magazines from the UK which have excellent photoshop tutorials and ideas Digital Camera and Digital Photo.

They are a tad on the expensive side but represent value in terms of the content.

I subscribe to the American magazine Outdoor Photographer. I've only just received my second issue and quite like it so far, interesting articles. A reasonable amount of ads but they tend to be mostly at the back of the magazine.

When at the news agent, I'll browse what is there and if the content is interesting, I'll buy it. For Outdoor Photographer, I haven't found a news agent in Newcastle that sells it and having read it in Canada, I liked it.

Don't discount forums like this one. I also frequent a few that specialise in the type of photography I like to do and the good ones have a wealth of information in there plus usually plenty of people to help out with your queries.

André, I used to subscribe to Outdoor Photographer, but after a while, my mags starting going AWOL - ended up getting one (only one year late) that had come to me via China and Russia !!!!! I think I missed out on roughly 4 issues - and whenever I contacted the mag, they just extended my subscription by a couple of months.

Not quite sure how they managed, it, but after that I didn't renew my subs.

Must admit it was a good mag though

I read this forum every day ever since i joined over 18 months ago & have not only gotten plenty of advice but also bought my NikonD80 & battery grip ,sb-600, 70-200vr 18-50 2.8 + others here & attended minimeets when my job allowed
i also belong to DPreview, a cpl of flickr groups Nikoneans etc
I would just like a mag to be able to skim thru that is acually interesting as well
I just wanted a opinion from people here to get an idea if there is one that stands out

I couldn't agree more with the above. Despite being UK based publications they have very relevant information and pages upon pages of practical, step-by-step, tutorials in a very easy to understand format. They really show you how to get the most from a DSLR (and only DSLR... its not a snap-happy tourist's guide).

I think the only draw back on these are that they take so long to hit the shelves of our news agencies. I'm talking in the region of 2 months. I haven't subscribed yet, but I was planning to this week. Hopefully that will cut the delay.

I buy UK mags Digital SLR Photography, and Digital Camera. Both have good content and advice, and often contain extras!

I don't subscribe, but for photographic inspiration you can't beat Focus Fine Art Photography Magazine (http://www.focusmag.info).

I pick it up from MagNation, magazine shop in Elizabeth St Melbourne.
No equip' reviews/tips etc, just chock full of glorious fine art photography.
The only draw back is the fact that it's only published 4 times per year. Next issue due in shops Dec 8th approx.

all the photography magazines ive read have been junk. just pointless reviews on articles that really make no conclusions, and a bunch of ads.

when there is a technique article i often found it really didnt apply to me or i wasnt interested in the outcome being achieved. sometimes they were interesting, though.

haven't read any fine art style photography magazines though, only the ones that you can buy at a newstand that cover technique, gear, etc.

forums and internet articles are a far more cost effective method of learning, i seem to find. you can google up answers to almost anything, and there is so much knowledge on forums like this.

I have bought Digital Camera World or Digital Camera (Much the same publication from the UK) for over 2 years. I am thinking of stopping now because they are starting to repeat themselves. Aside from the letters and reviews of new cameras, there are some good how to articles and theory content, but really you can get all that on the web and from here if you just ask the community. I have not even put the last 5 Cd's in the computer, they are still untouched. I like to sit down with a coffee and flick through them, but objectively I don't get a whole lot from them. My advice is save your money, go to the local library or a mate who has a collection like me if you want to read glossy mags. I literally have a filing cabinet drawer full of these. When I look at them and x $17.95 which is the airfreight price, I could have bought some more gear for what I have paid for them.

I like mags that are full of photographs, and have no photography babble. Sometimes I read the stories about the subject matter or photographer but that's not essential. B&W magazine is a good example. Very inspiring.

For quite some time I was subscribed on:
Popular Photography (USA)
Photo Life (Canada)
Practical Photography (UK)
But now they all are all lapsed.

Now I just go to a newsagancy from time to time and check the following magazines:
Photography Monthly (UK)
Practical Photography (UK)
Capture (Australia)
And if I see something really interresting then I buy it. After a few years I just found that all these magazines are all the same. Not worth to subscribe.
