Buying from Poon and the warranty issue...Hi all
Quick question... Has anyone bought something from Poon (or another HK dealer such as DigitalREV) and had an issue that required a warranty return? If so, how did it turn out? What was the turnaround time? I ask as I am about to buy a D300 and the warranty is the only thing stopping me from buying from either Poon or DigitalREV (ebay). Any advice would be great...
I haven't had any warranty needs yet, but I am buying my D300 from Poon on the basis that I will just ship it back to him for warranty returns which will be just as hard as shipping it to any Australian online seller or taking it to Nikon Australia for repair. Also, given the larger market in Hong Kong, I suspect it will be repaired more quickly.
Thanks ATJ
Your thoughts aline pretty much perfectly with mine. After waiting close to 9 weeks to have a basic warranty repair carried out on my D200 here in Perth, surely sending back to Poon cant be any worse!!
Me 3 ... I get stuff quicker from Poon than from in Aus... MATT
Escapism, I agree with Andrew (and did the same order on the same day)
As Poon has a warm and ongoing relationship with this forum, I would not even consider anywhere else. He has a number of reasons to correct a problem, other vendors do not.
I was, in fact, going to ask this question myself as I am looking to do a similar thing, though my D300 will need some lenses as I am currently a Pentax user... If spending a Christmas bonus was a sport I'd win!
One specific question I had was the length of the Warranty on Bodies/lenses from Poon and if they are in line with what I'd get locally? I can research what I get from a local reseller, but I wanted to clarify what Poon provides.
Matt (I hope I have that right), The FAQ doesn't mention the length of the warranty, just that it is return to vendor, but Poon's ebay items have:
Jon, but I'll forgive you. Forgetting names is one of my trademarks I just re-read the FAQ to make sure I hadn't missed it and saw that again. The eBay quote helps though, given that these are the same products one would expect the same warranty. If that is the case, I think I'll pull the trigger on a pile of gear I probably don't need next week
Damn! I was sure I met a Pentax user called Matt on the Ferry Hop.
I'm pretty sure I've seen Gary say somewhere (but couldn't find it quickly - bloody search) that we get both a HK warranty and an international warranty (both 12 months I would assume).
Twas on the hop, so at least you know what I look like! In fact we talked diving briefly at King Street Wharf if memory serves. If it makes you feel better, I can't remember any names from that day at all - one of my many flaws
I get the feeling warranty concerns are unwarranted (did I just write that?) but it would be nice to see in B&W. Perhaps an update to the FAQ is in order?
And we also talked about the limited number of Pentax lenses on the Ferry from the Quay to Darling Harbour, if my memory is also working. Otherwise, I'll blame the Alzheimer's which runs in my family. Oh, did I mention Alzheimer's runs in my family?
That's me I shouldn't have that issue once I have a d300 in my hands. Heck, with Craig in the office I can borrow nearly as many Nikon lenses as I own Pentax! Oh, don't worry about the Alzheimer's, at least you get to meet new people every day!
Warranty is usually twelve months, return to HKG. It's a seller's warranty.
If you use something like FedUp, the trip for your goods to HKG will probably be quicker than if you return your good to the store from whence they were purchased, and had them in turn return the goods to NikonOz If you have a problem though, don't just send the stuff: talk to me first. As we know, many problems come back to user error ID Ten-Tee, and we need to try to eliminate that first. g.
