What is everyone up to this evening? Going in to watch the fireworks by the harbour in Sydney? A quiet night by the teev at home? Watching the ball drop in NYC? Or the queen drop in Key West?

Do tell.

Dinner at friends' place... then home to watch the fireworks on TV if I could be bothered... then tucked up in bed shortly after midnight.

Working on NYE is fun... why can't this year end already?!?! :) :)

Sleep...

I was bitten by a spider about 2 weeks ago and got really bad blood poisioning and been pretty much bed ridden for a week or so..

Twice daily IV anti-biotics and blood tests are not fun... I don't wanna play this game anymore...

I just want next year to arrive so I can put this one behind me :(

Sad to hear you are unwell MSF. Hope all goes well in your recovery. What type of spider was it?

I'm thinking perhaps a quiet night at home and then off to the beach early in the morning for a quick dip.

I'm on call. :(

However, as the Hobart docks are close by, I'll shoot the fireworks from the comfort of home on my balcony.

Cheers
John

Doing my last studio shoot of the year today. Then stay home, cook some nice dinner and enjoy the night with the close ones.

Maybe head out to the street and watch some fireworks, since there is a nice view of the bridge from here, but yet far away...

BBQ with a couple of close friends and then some games of Buzz on the PS2 with a drink or two, I too am on-call for the evening as well, joy!

No watching of the fireworks here, and hopefully the boy will go to bed at a reasonable hour :P

Jason, not good to hear about the spider bite, I hope it wasn't a white tail!

Hope everyone has a great and above all safe evening!

Happy new year everyone..

and *hugs* to Jason.. I hope your feeling better soon.. :)

Thanks for the well wishes... much appreciated...

I had no idea I was even bitten at the time, so unsure of exactly what it was.

I was at work and I just got really sick in the space of about 90 mins. I felt perfect at lunchtime, but by 1:30 - 2pm I had a really high fever and shakes like epileptic fits. I ended up passing out for a bit apparently.
Work sent me home as I declined to be taken to hospital by ambo as (being a typical 'I can handle this, i'm tough' boy), I thought I was Ok.. and it was just a flu etc...

Made it home and went straight to bed and when I woke up about 14 hrs later my leg had swollen heaps and was really red and hot to touch. Thought I'd better go to hospital at that stage..

It appears to have bitten me on the inner thigh as that is where the inflamation and swelling started. My leg blew up like a balloon (about twice the size of my other leg) and the pain was excruitiating. Walking was next to impossible.

The doctor seemed to be more concerned about treating the symptoms rather than working out the cause.. I just appreciated the stronger pain releif :p They gave me some injection and I started to throw up and and passed out again.

Numerous blood tests, scans and xrays later they still didn't know what it was, but just kept treating me with blood tests and then different doses of anti-biotics. I am home now, but have twice daily Nurse vistits that give me my drugs and monitor my blood levels etc and adjust the antibiotics etc..

I didn't eat at all for 6 days, and spend Xmas day in bed, so it's the first Xmas I haven't stuffed myself with all the nice food :)

Feeling heaps better, but still far from recovered. leg is still swollen a bit , but the pain is mostly gone so I an definitley on the mend..

Cheers
Jason

Bloody hell Jason!
Keep your legs closed next time
Seriously thogh, glad to hear you are on the mend.
Quiet night in for us as the friends barby has been cancelled due to injury.
It will be fun trying to keep the dog calm as he has just had an op and freaks with fireworks.
Regards Colin

Jason, you story is mildly terrifying. Here's wishing you a swift recovery!

I'm staying away from the alcohol this year. In years past, my blood:alcohol ratio has been unfavourable to the point where I don't remember precisely the moment of midnight.

We are having a few friends over for a bbq and a swim. It's been over 40 degrees for the last 4 days (got to over 46 the last 2!) with more to come - temps of over 40 for the next 4 or 5 days at least. Too bloody hot to do anything much!

Like any typical 25 year old ( ), I doubt I'll even make midnight. I'm going over to a friends house for a few drinks tonight before coming home to bed. I keep trying to justify it by saying that I have a big field trip to set 1000 ant traps early on Wednesday, but that is a whole day away.....I think I'm a 70 year old trapped in a young person's body......

I am off to the 'House of Chow' in the CBD with a friend for Chinese Duck, Sea Trout/Bass and a few Cooper's Pale Ales.

When is it?

The sad part Jason is that you didn't get to bite the spider back.

Happy New Year everyone...................................................

After driving 500+ kms from Coffs today, just relaxing with a quiet Coopers (green for refreshment, red for fun), checking up on 1500 posts since my last visit, trying to download 7gb worth of photos and finding my terminal laptop won't find my card reader, etc.

Have a great 2008 everyone.

If you are driving - watch out for the d#%kheads who:

1. Think that a space of less than 2 meters between cars at 110km is suitable.
2. Are driving home to Sydney
3. Drive 4WDs
4. Believe that driving at a speed with a variance of +/- 30% is suitable (notwithstanding changes to signposted speed limits).
5. Believe it's ok to drive at 10kph below the speed limit at single lane roads and then speed to 10kph at overtaking lanes.

Anyway, have a great time and stay safe.
