Tom Putt is a mate of mine and an award winning landscape photographer. You can see some of his stuff at http://www.tomputt.com

Tom is running a series of workshops this year with a colleague, Glen Campbell covering a range of topics. I am going to the Digital Landscape Photography Workshop at the Great Ocean Road in March.

Anyone else keen to join in?

Declaration: As I said above, Tom is a friend of mine and I have bought several of his prints. I am however getting nothing out of this except what I learn from Tom and Glen.

Cheers
Dean

Would be interesting to see the approach taken by some of these guys. It's a great place for photo's, and I'm really looking forward to my next trip down there :)

I also like the sound of the Waterfalls and Rainforest workshop - $395 for the workshop eh? Then you'd have accommodation on top of that I guess. If it includes accommodation then this sounds like a not bad deal, and a good excuse to visit Melbourne!

As an aside - I wonder how long before they make it so you aren't allowed to profit from images of the Great Ocean Road, like they have for the Opera House and Bridge!

I hear they are already thinking of making it a toll road! Once that happens it would be a simple matter for them to include in the conditions of using the toll road (which you agree to by paying the toll) that you are not permitted to sell your photo's. Maybe they'll even put a megapixel or lens-size limit!

It's on the Copyrights listing of Victorian Govt. few years ago, for fun is OK but not for commercial

Well - there you go!

I wonder what sort of commission pro's have to pay for the rights then (?).

Depend on the nature of your use. Have you seen the short TV commercial from Qantas and the Ocean Road and the song Calling Australia Home? just eight seconds show on TV? Qantas paid nearly 1mil. for their rights to use it until 2006 if I'm not wrong.

Do you have 1 Mil. loose change which was left somewhere? I'll tell you what to do

That’s it - from now on I am going to do a Rik Mayall and photograph only my own bottom then I know I won’t be breaking any government rules

Ah, but (or should I say butt :) ) Chris you can't freely show anyone the pics since indecency laws might prevent you. :D

Once again, insanity rules. How can a construction of nature be copyrighted? Surely the Vic Government can't own the rights to it? Wouldn't the creator of the coast be the copyright owner. I can see God or Mother Nature or maybe the Dreamtime Aboriginal thingy sueing the Vic Governement for copyright infringement in the future somewhere. :)

I say photograph it and make some money out of it.

Enjoy your workshops fellas.

G'day Dean,
Keen as mustard to learn from someone that's experienced, so I'd be in it! I assume the cost is for the workshop fees only, so I'll need to check out accomodation... I've just sent off an e-mail to enquire about booking and any recommended accomodation etc. I did a similar thing in the Blue Mountains last October with a guide and it was a ball, had a great time with someone who's only interest photography, worth every cent...

Also the rainforest and waterfalls workshop sounds great too...

Thanks for the tip...

Cheers,
Mudder

I just got back from the Tom Putt Digital Landscape Photography Workshop held along the Great Ocean Road.

There were only 5 students (including our own Mudder) and two instructors so there was plenty of one-on-one advice over the three days. The instruction and hospitality was fantastic, we had some accommodating weather and overall a great time was had by all.

Based on my experience with this workshop I would highly recommend any of Tom's workshops.

Shots are here and here.

Cheers
Dean

Let's have a summary from you and mudder on the course - structure, things you learned, ability of instructors, value for money, etc.

I'm sure many of us would like to know more about photo courses.

G'day,

Dean, the images you've produced are bloody beautiful mate... There's some great scenes in there... I'll post some for others to sticky in a different thread in a tick...

Had a ball at the workshop... Was great hangin' with other people that share the passion for photography, bugger all else was discussed... No footy, not even cricket ;-) ...

Structure of the course was good, early morning shoot, theory during the day, evening shoot, then theory at night... Some critique but I think the next courses will have more critique sessions which would be very beneficial, not only of those images you think are good, but also the average ones and why they are average etc... Very welcoming and knowledgeable tutors... Great value...

Anyway, can't recommend highly enough, I'll be going to the waterfall workshop for sure...

Cheers,
Mudder
