I still can't get around what I need to order from http://www.2filters.com

Basically I want to start using the ND grads for my 16-35 mkII (82mm thread)

The Cokins are in my budget. What do I need to hook it up plus the filters? What are these talks of adaptor rings?

Are these what I need?
Cokin P Wide Angle Holder
82mm adapter ring Cokin P
Cokin P Holder

And which filters do I need?

Cokin G1 Grey Graduated
G2 Grey Graduated
Gradual Grey G2-Medium
Gradual Grey G2-Light
Gradual Grey 2-Soft
Gradual Grey G2-Full

I just want to take landscape shots with a nice exposure of the sky

Hello Ron,

Don't buy the Cokin filters if you can afford it as they have a slight grey colour cast to them and not neutral, which is what you want. Look at the Hi-Tech filters as they are neurtal and not as expensive as Lee or Sing Ray.

I purchased mine from 2filter.com and there service was fantastic.

Q1. To use the filters you have: Lens -> Adapter ring -> Filter holder -> Filter.
The adapter ring allows you to use different lenses with your filter system, your looking at the 82mm ring to fit the 16-35. I have a 77mm ring to fit a Canon 10-22mm lens + a 62mm ring to fit my Sigma 30mm + a 58mm to fit my 18-55mm kit lens.

Q2. With a lens filter size of 82mm you will need the wide angle holder, otherwise you will see the corners of the holder. You will also need to buy I believe the wider filters.
See this thread to see an example I took @ 10mm:

Check out his thread about filter sizes:

Q3. Sorry I didn't buy the Cokin filters so I can't tell you if this is good or not. I only researched the Hi-Tech filters once I knew about the colour cast the Cokins produce.

Check out these links for GND idea's:

This shows the filter set-up on the camera.

This has examples of the different filters on the same scene.

Many thanks mate for going into the trouble of finding the links for reference.

Never heard of high tech but will look into it now. So basically I purchase the Cokin holders, adapters etc and get the Hi-Tech filters?

Have a look at my thread.. I was just as much in the dark as you I think. I just bought the following to use on my Sigma 10-20mm lens.

P299 Wide Angle Slim P Holder @ $11.70
P 77mm adaptor ring (just get your size instead of the 77mm) @ $12.00 (VTEC brand)
P121 Grad Grey G2 ND8 @ $33.80
P121L Grad Grey G2 Light ND2 @$33.80

All are ex tax bringing the total after tax to $100.40

In the quick tests i've done with my lens i'm rather impressed. I haven't noticed any noticeable (at least in the few tests I've done) of color casting etc. In fact, if anything I think the whites are brought out more.

I'm rather impressed so far.

Basically, you screw the adaptor ring onto the lens like you would any other filter. You then attach the filter holder to the adaptor ring. You then add the filter to the holder and that's all there is to it.
