A Flash Question

Now I know this isn't really a Flash Question ( Pun Intended )

Can you change the Aperture of the D70, say instead of 5.6 to say whatever else when you use the SB 800 ?

And is 1/60th the best speed to use ?

Please enlighten me ( Gees stop with the Puns )

Mic.

When using flash...set camera to manual mode, dial in your settings...and leave the flash in TTL mode, bounce when ever you can. When I use flash My settings are usaully f2.8 and 1/30 or 1/60 sec depending what effects I require.

Hmmm interesting Shutterbug,

I'll experiment with that.

Do you get everything crisp with F2.8
I'm pretty sure I will with my new 17-55

Thanks,

Mic.

mic,

you can change the aperture to any setting you like for the desired effect you want, but remember that aperture and ISO have a role to play in the effective working distance of your flash. There are tables in the manual which tell you what the working distances are for the flash at particular ISO speed and aperture settings.

yep...after PP. I like it wide open, the pic is more natural, the background is bright too.

the actual flash only lasts for 1/500, after that your are just exposing background... so how long you set the shutter depends on a vareity of things:
How bright the BG is (taking into consideration you f-stop)
how much your subject is moving (dont forget they are still being exposed by ambient light post-flash)

An example, all taken at f2.8 iso400, 1/30 or 1/60 sec.

Very nice!

Shutterbug: I'm not all that experienced but my settings in a room relitively well by incandescents (using by SB-80DX)
Cam:
Manual mode
apetures between 2 and 10 (depending on lens of course)
shutter speed usually ~1/60 to 1/30 except when there is action!

I use my flash on Apeture mode (no TTL on sb-80dx with d70)
