I think the most interesting one to us is the Sigma one
http://www.dpreview.com/articles/pma2005/Sigma/

Those lenses look quite big. and suprisingly well built...

I've lost hope for PMA on that...
Stand is set up and running, do they release stuff 1/2 way through?

very intersting indeed.

The 30mm sounds fantastic for an equivalent of a 50mm film camera prime. I reckon this would have to be close to pipping the legendary 50mm Nikkor - faster, better focal length and ultrasonic motor

The 18 - 200 mm zoom would be sensational for a walk around holiday lens. Interested to see the performance of this one in some test shots.

I'm not as excited by the ultra wide angle lense but I'm sure some of you will be.

The pricing will be very interesting and I'm keen to see some testing on all three of them.

A question for you: lets say that the new [D90] comes out and doesn't have a 1.5 crop factor. Say it has a new sensor that fills the full 35mm film space. Will these new digital lenses work with that camera?

What I'm getting at is are we all buying lenese which could well be obselete one day if all of a sudden the sensor size changes when we buy a new body?

An interesting question, but one that probably wont rear it's ugly head for at least a couple of years. The near future cameras from Nikon will retain the current 2/3 size DX CCD/CMOS. But in a few years I would imagine that we will getting into the 20MP+ area. That's a lot of pixels to cram on the current size sensor and the problem of noise will start to become a problem.

If technology doesn't come to the rescue, then we will start to get to the situation that afflicts current "high end" PHD cameras, that is above ISO 400 they are noisier than a Led Zepplin concert

It will be interesting to see how the new D2X handles high ISO's. It may give us a few pointers.... PS: No, DX lenses will not work with ANY full frame camera without severe vignetting.

Jonesy, only the DX lenses are for the smaller frame sensor. All others such as 24-120, 70-200, etc are full frame

For sure, but not for a while; Nikon will persist with DX lenses for a good while longer. Who knows, maybe they'll introduce a full-frame sensor that can also do 1.5x cropped images, a la D2X's rapid shooting mode?

My solution is by both formats, I have non Dx lenses mor than Dx.
They are only two good Dx and popular lenses so far:
- 17-55Dx
- 12-24Dx
The rest of Nikon gems are standard lenses:
28/1.4, 45P, 50/1.4, 85/1.4, 105DC/f.2, 135DC/f.2, AF-S 17-35/2.8 AF-S70-2000VR, AF-S 80-200 Etc....

Birddog. I'd be tempted to include the kit lens in your list of good DX lenses. It may be only a cheapie, but in a price V performance test it cant be beat

The 18-70 is not in that league!

Read somewhere that was saying that Nikon usually announces new lenses in (the Northern Hemisphere) Spring/Summer.

Yes, It's very quiet this time from Nikon! perhaps somewhere by the end of this year. What elso do we need? Nikon all have full range to cover, problem is we don't have enough dough for them.

Well, they seem to have the wide angle and prime markets pretty well covered, but I would like to be able to buy, say, an 18-70 AFS VR and an 80-400 AFS VR. That would keep me pretty happy for "all purpose everyday" lenses and I could fill my collection out with fast primes for when the need arises and/or which way this hobby takes me.

I know, dream on.........

so, therefore, it would be good to see a few DX primes...

So far, I am a little dissapointed that there has been no D100 replacement announced. I am not too worried about new lenses - Nikon already has a great line up.
The D2Hs is an interesting beast that seems to be squarely aimed at PJ's. If I could have a six or eight megapixel version, I would put my order in.
The one thing that has really made me take notice is the Sigma EM-140 D Macro Speedlight. It should be interesting to see if it works properly with iTTL.

Cheers

Matt

Matt,
Don't worry about too much the replacement of the D100! are you able to reach the 8MP price tag, It won't happens and non replacement for it in Nikon list, they killed that segment, The D70 is more than what you can do or the D2x if you're keen of. 8MP, are you going to need that?
Me! I don't ask for MP and only ask for fun with the D2x, new toy, new tech and wireless G.
Today I've got:
- the Asus WL-HD25, wireless HDD casing for 2.5" note book hdd, will have 80Gb hdd in it soon tonight.
- The Asus WL-530g wireless pocket router
- Asus WL-330g wireless pocket LAN
All of above can run on car battery 12V, will setup a mobile wireless in my truck and once the D2x arrived, perhaps the WT-2 available, via a notebook with 3G or iBurst Internet connection, I can provide member live shooting photo on the spot.
  I'll drive to Bondi and shoot topless with wireless
