The Genius Of Photography

Something of interest on ABC2 on Sunday night, a 6 part documentary on photography.
This may well be a repeat but its always good to show it again for those that missed it.

The Genius Of Photography
8.31pm – 9.30pm ABC2
Sunday 10 February 2008
The Genius Of Photography is a landmark series exploring the key events and images that have marked the development of photography - it chronicles the journey from camera obscura to the digital image. At the heart of the series is a quest to understand what makes a truly great photograph. This is a new six-part series screening on ABC2. Following the First World War, photography was the central medium of the age. It became a means of expressing order and a medium for propaganda. "Anyone who fails to understand photography", said the photographer Lazlo Moholy-Nagy "will be one of the illiterates of the future." Episode two Documents For Artists, examines in detail the work of some of the greatest and most influential modern photographers: Alexander Rodchenko, August Sander, Man Ray, Walker Evans and Bill Brandt; and includes contributions from Martin Parr, Bernd and Hilla Becher, and Mark Haworth-Booth.
