Hi all,
I have the opportunity to purchase some of these lenses off a family member.
Nikon AF-D 20mm f2.8
Nikon AF-D 35-70mm f2.8
Nikon AF-D 50mm f1.8
Nikon AF-D 24-85mm f2.8-4
Sigma EX 24-70mm f2.8
If I had to pick two which two would it be? and why?
Note due to budget restrictions the Sigma is there ...
is it a good lense? I am having trouble finding quality reviews of it.

Here you go:
Nikon AF-D 35-70mm f2.8
Nikon AF-D 50mm f1.8
The rest are paperweight

Thank you,
I really don't know how you do it, answer all these threads that is. You are a miracle worker.
I will take your advice. I have heard lots of good things about the 50mm F1.8 but wasn't sure about the rest.
When I come into some funds I will place my order for my 70-200VR
Regards
Luke

I could cope with a 20mm 2.8 as a paperweight
That being said I would say that Birddog nailed it on the head, I would go with his choices in the order he typed them.

Some great shots from that sigma
If my budget get's really tight I might have to consider it. I am partial to nikon glass however. Thank you for sharing those. some great photo's, really puts thing in perspective.
I thought the 20mm would be an ok lense, but I am going with Birddog on this one, I'm not touching it.

I think it'd also depend on the lens you already own. Unfortunately I haven't used any of them so I can't really tell... But this 20mm F/2.8 looks good on paper!

If you're into wide angle and you can get a good price on the 20mm/2.8 I'd get it. The 50/1.8 is a great lens, but is so cheap you can buy it new, not much saving in getting it second hand. The list price for the 20/2.8 is over $1K, so if you can get it at a good price, I'd go with it.

For a D70 user I would go with Birddys view, but as gooseberry said the 20 2.8 is an expensive lens. I have it, but have only stuck it on the D70 once, due to the kit covering that length and it isn't really a wide anymore, so not a useful length for the money on a digital body. Mind you in 2010 when a FF body comes out, I'll already have a wide angle. If they are really cheap, and it would not be using a situation, buy the 20 and resell it. Still get $400-$600 S/H. The 50mm 1.8 is $200 new.
Edit You know none of these fit on a *ist DS?

The 20/2.8 is around $600.00/ 35-70 is $900.00 Aussie Plastic.
The 20/2.8 is not so good in DSLR and is not my choice, on FF maybe it has the place to stand.

The 20mm was used on a nikon F5. I actually liked it when used in conjunction with that wonderful camera. Stuck on a D70 I don't think it would do allot for me, 30mm isn't all that useful not wide enough when you want wide and to short when what you really want is 50mm.
I could buy it and sell again, but my finanaces really are streched tight at the momment.
I think the 50mm, 35-70 are as Birdy says the way to go.
thanks for the feedback everyone.

I am intereted in the 20mm. How much is it going for? I am thinking of using it as a reverse macro lens.

Hmm not sure if I can arrange that, the lense's are from a family member, both myself and another friend of mine have the oppurtunity to purchase them, with the condition I get first dip.
The family member is older and I think would prefer I didn't buy the lenses off him and then on sell them. Thats just my feeling on the matter. I was only half serious in my last post. Sorry about that.
