Exposure and colour meters plus gels.

For all but the past 4 of the last 25 years I have been shooting with an incident light meter. That SH meter was a relic from the '70's of unknown pedigree, but most importantly, it worked. It is time for a new meter. The problem is that I have no idea what is hot and what is not. I have been reading all of those "rosy" reviews, but they are just that; rosy. I am happy to buy top shelf gear (providing that it will last - preferably as long as my last meter) with flash calculations and have so far been looking at Sekonic (eg 758D), Minolta (discontinued) and Gossen. Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions, other options?

Flash has brought a problem in dealing with mixed lighting. Currently it is just a best guess situation when it comes to adjusting flash colour and temperature. I need a colour meter. So far I have seen only Gossen and Minolta (discontinued) and lean towards the later subject to availability. I am looking for other options if they exist.
Also, I am looking for brands and suppliers of gels ... <snipped> EDIT: Worked out what I need and where to get it.

Any help is appreciated. :)

Are you using PWs? If so, Sekonic would be the go. (I've got a 358 with the PW module, but I'm in the process of learning how to use a lightmeter properly...

"PW's"? You'll have to excuse me (or not! :) ); I am not up with all of the terminology and abbreviations yet. :)

Oooops, my mistake, sorry.

PWs are "Pocket Wizards" http://www.pocketwizard.com/HTML/plus2.asp - RF triggers for flashes. Not cheap, so you'd know if you had them :-)

No worries... :) No pocket wizards, but I am interested in multi-flash, so anything is possible. I am looking for room for growth.

Being able to trigger the strobes with the lightmeter, wirelessly, is outstanding, reckon, so it might be worth keeping in mind. (Well, as might the cost of the damn things! (The PWs :-).

The Minolta meters are widely used and have an excellent reputation amongst the pros. But expensive!

Thanks Matt,

Is there any info on whether Sony is going to continue with the manufacture of KM meters. I am assuming from the "discontinued" on the KM sites that Sony has got their mits into KM meters.

EDIT:
Aha, after a bit of searching
