This is also a public board and I have spoken to Customs officers who have accessed while we are speaking on the phone! If you want to source a D300 at a good price in Australia, D-D Photographics in Sydney are pretty good. They have the D300 at $2189, inc GST and you get a tax invoice. You can either pick it up or get it delivered to your for $28. It is imported stock, just like the HK gear. Look in the Traders Opinion section for good reviews on their service.

For Australian stock, ie backed by local Nikon warranty, ECS have them for $2585, that's about as good as it gets.

So, plenty of options for you.
