Economical Web Hosting

Postby mikephotog on Tue Mar 04, 2008 10:26 am

Any recommendations for cost effective web hosting?
I am with someone already but having problem with their accounting system and lack of communication.
Not needing anything that allows for huge traffic, more a hobby site.

Cheers,
Mike.

Mike,

If you're already having issues with communication, then you probably don't want to go with GoDaddy, although they are very cheap, especially if you just want to host one site.

If you want to host more than one, then DreamHost is fairly good value, and you can get a very good first year discount if you use Scott's (MHD) code. DH are very good value. There can be some issues, but at least there are real people in the support team, and the responses that you get are usually helpful and not full of bullshit.

Another Vote for Dreamhost.

I have my main (MotorSportFotos) photo site and well as 2 different forums that run off mine without any major issues.

In the 3 to 4 years I have been with them, I can only recall maybe 6 or 7 'down-times'

The first year discounts make them VERY good value and hard to beat.

The few times I've had questions/concerns about my site, they were answered quickly and accurately, so that is good to see.

I use GoDaddy for registering and parking my domians, but that's all they get from me...

Another vote for DreamHost here. I haven't had any issues with them at all. A few hiccups to start, but they were quite prompt helping me figure it all out. I have used godaddy and joker.com for domain names. Both without any issues.

In fact i was pretty tired the night i registered my domain name with godaddy and spelt photography, photgrpahy. They gave me a refund and let me try again when i had slept again. :D

They let you create your own Promo codes... basically if you offer zero discount you get $97 for every customer you sign up... if you offer a discount of $97 you get $0 for every customer you sign up..

Now I am very happy with dream host and even happier with DSLRusers! So I am happy to send people DHs way and give members a really really good deal on web hosting..

Go to http://www.dreamhost.com sign up for a year at level 1 (you can do your own reading into what you get) enter the code D70USERS

and instead of $119USD it will cost $22 USD for a years hosting...

So I make $0 per transaction... thats right nothing... this is not done out of self interest... rather to pass on what I think is a good thing to good people

Please do not distribute this code to widely... Or I will cancel it

if you want to pass on a good deal code then give them LENSLUST which is $50USD for a years hosting (meaning I get $27.60)

Cheers....
