Difference Between HK and Aussie Spec d70

Postby rahudman on Fri Feb 25, 2005 11:07 am

Hi guys,

There seems be a a whole host of ways to get a d70 (after many hours exploring the web :roll: ). The main difference I notice is that some are Aussie spec (from within Australia), and some come from Hong Kong.

What is the difference? IF any :?:

Surely the camera that we get stocked here come from OS (presumably asia) in the first place? If this is the case, then what other effects are there from buying your d70 from os suppliers (eg. ebay shopfronts etc) vs. australian suppliers :?: Quite often the OS one (from HK say they are "AU spec". True :?:

Just qurious. I'm probably six months away from being able to afford mine (tax return!!), and just wanted to know what the go is? Are they the same camera :?:

Cheers............ :wink:

As far as I know, a D70 is a D70... there are no differences between OS models and Aussie models. If video were added to them ever, differences might arise in PAL and NTSC as well as SECAM difference, but that's it.

I have a 50/1.4 and a gitzo 1227lvl from HK... not a problem!

I think the key when buying from HK is to buy from some one you trust...

The only difference is: "AUS or HKG" on your order.

Yes, serial numbers. D70s released to Asia starts with a 7, Aussie D70 start with a...??? (It's engraved on the bottom plate of the camera, near the tripod socket)

Nikonians forums had a thread showing consistencies in serial numbers and country of distribution.

US = 3xxxxxx
Jap = 2xxxxxx
Aust/NZ = blah blah etc etc

And of course warranties are country based, not worldwide, so If you buy from HKG you send it back there for warranty reparirs.
