Does anyone know what sort of reputation the Nikkor 35-105AF macro f3.5-4.5 has? I know that it's discontinued and is not a very expensive lens, can anyone expand on this?

Released in 1991, was a popular focal lenght with general shooters,
Great for group shots as well as individual portrait, It's excellent for first zoom purchase.
This version's biggest improvement is in its response. The zoom has a push-pull action, while the original version had a two-ring operational. At the end of the zoom collar is the focusing ring, which travel with the collar when zooming. This makes for fast reaction time.
The lens has a Macro mode with a maximum of 1:3.5 magnification (105mm focal lenght only); it excellent free working distance lend itself to macro work.

Thanks Birddog,
Interesting, the one I have (just piked it up off ebay for $49) has a twist action single collar zoom. I'll try it out soon, see what it's like.

They call it as "Push & pull" action maybe.
