going from memory, i think a sandisk ultra III is 133x... don't take my word on it though...

god says Ultra II is 60-66x depending on where you look.

Off the top of my head, I think the Sandisk Ultra II is either 150x or 166x

I wont buy Sandisk from eBay because Ive been stung before with fake cards.
Last time I settled on a Transcent 16Gb card, its quick enough for me.

also, i wouldn't pay $200US for that transcend card either... you can pick up an Ultra III for less...

whats the difference between typoe 1 and type II

should i gt a 266x type one or a sandisk ultra IV or V type 2?

Wendell, type 2 cards are most obvious by their physical dimensions - they are a little thicker... other than that I dunno.

I think type one is the only type used in modern cameras. Type 2 is called a microdrive or something and is like hard drive isn't it?

I got an Extreme IV Sandisk 4Gb recently for around $120....genuine from a retailer here. Why would you be considering any less with new bodies like the D300/D3 that have such high transfer rates? Or was the query a pub debate between Type 1 and 2 that was unresolved?

Depends on the camera, the new Ex III cards work well in my EOS 40D, in fact it's pointless going any faster for that camera, though if your talking write to computer speeds then you need a fast card reader too.

im after more memory as well, am planning on upgrading to a d300 within a year, would it be recommended to get an extreme 3 or 4?? doing some poor maths, at 8fps and 5mb/jpeg image, that would be 40mb/sec...

anyone with a d300 have any light they can shed on this situation?

I run SanDisk Ducati Extreme 300x 4gb cards in my D300, and if ur shooting JPG that rough math is about right but i must warn you that even these cards choke a lil after a while. it seems that there is some delay somewhere. on the topic of transferring photos, if u have a standard CF reader, go via the camera, it is heaps quicker, but if u want REAL speed then shell out for the SanDisk Extreme FireWIre CF reader, 4gb in 3mins, worth the money in my books.

if you are heading up to the D300 and are shopping for more memory get Extreme IV at least - the D300 can use the extra speed, if u can afford it go the Ducati cards. Seeto.centric uses Extreme IVs in his D300. these being our main cards, i also use the Sony 133x 2gb, no probs there, but i dont use them when i require speed, seeto also uses the extreme III mk2 (30 mb/s) and Ultra II but he has not said anything about 8fps performance with those cards.

I currently use Extreme III 4GB in my D300 and they work fine. I don't shoot any more than one shot at a time though, so your mileage may vary if you want to shoot up to 8fps. I plan to get Extreme IV 8GB in the next month or so.

do yourself a favour and get the Sandisk Extreme IV or at the very least the Extreme III. D-D Photographics on the north shore has the Extreme IV 4Gb for $89 and the 8Gb for $185, considerably less for the Extreme III. They will not be the holdup in write speed in the camera. When transferring on the PC/Mac they will also be much faster, especially if you have the Sandisk firewire reader for $89.

If price is an issue, get the Ultra II but make sure you don't get a fake as there are plenty of those on ebay.

I've been quite happy with my Extreme IV 4Gb. Plenty of room for a shoot.

The only cards I have ever had fail on me has been the Ultras. Sandisk were good and replaced them for me under the lifetime warranty they have on all cards however now I only use Extreme III or Extreme IV cards. At the moment I am looking to get some more Extreme IV 4 gig cards because with the right card reader they download about twice as fast as anything other card. In your case I would be buying Extremes simply because as a pro you should be using reliable equipment. The extra $30 it might cost you a card is a lot less painful than the cost of reshooting an assignment because a card failed after the shoot.

Look for the kit with the Extreme FireWire CF Reader, you wont regret it. The RescuePro software is also very useful. But def get it from a trusted retailer.

Nice to hear that SanDisk honours their lifetime warranty, I have never had any cards fail on me *crosses fingers*, but if I had to put money on a one of my cards failing me, I would probably say the 2GB 80x Tomato Flash CF that I bought whilst waiting for my Ducati's to arrive, although I have never seen any of those come back, but a few of the 150x and 80x Tomato Flash SD's come back though. For the record, we swap them out, but we are changing to A-Data (I wish it was SanDisk) as our main memory card brand at the shop I work at.
