Tokina trumps OEM again. this looks like a pearler of a WA lens. looks to have excelletn performance, (apart from typical tokina CA), and is priced beautifully.

2.8 aperture aswell no less ! this is high on my list.

How much is one of this? Sounds like a budget fast wide angle for the DX bodies :)

I'm sure it's a good lens, but what about that piddling zoom range? :?:

I think I'd prefer a fast prime.

I was thinking of getting it, haven't seen any fixed focal length lenses go that wide yet (except for the Sigma 10-20 and fisheyes) and I don't use ultra wides that much to justify the Nikon 14-24...

Well vignetting, distortion and resolution might be worse on the Nikon because of the slightly bigger sensor and I think Tokina cares a bit more about Canon than Nikon in that regards (re Tokina 12-24).

what fast prime would you be able to get in that range ? the 14mm nikkor is double the price and its a pretty big/ heavy lens so its not like you'll be saving on weight/size like you do with say the 50, 28, or 35mm primes.

looks like it will be around the $750 mark. imo its great value for people who want a landscape zoom lens and with that kind of sharpness its a great WA portrait lens.

I understand what you are saying.

But I wonder why Tokina didn't make (say) a 12mm or a 16mm prime. Surely that would have been easier and cheaper. I just think that a 5mm zoom range is a tad ridiculous, even at the wide end.
