Catastrophe in Birma, Burma, Myanmar ...

I'm very sorry to learn what catastrophe has struck Birma.

I would like to encourage everybody to make a contribution how little or how big, whatever you can do for the plight of this nation.
It is awful to read in the news that tens of thousands of people have died, (the trouble for those who died is over), however the remaining poulation
is suffering tremendously from loss of relatives, friends, shelter, water, food and sanitary needs.
They NEED urgent help.

Please consider,
CD

Copy and pasted from elsewhere.. (cause you started a new thread while I was replying to your other post lol)..

I for one will be donating money to aid the Burmese people.. I already donate to a orphanage there and I've seen how many of the Burmese people have to live.. they will need all the help that we can give..

Unfortunately I don't even have $5 to give these poor people, but hopefully the guys that run the joint will swallow their pride and accept some aid..

How is it possible that so many people died?? Is it a dense population type thing?

To understand how so many people have died you have to understand how they live in the first place... many of the Burmese living in villages don't have basic neccesities such as electricity, plumbing etc Their goverment is corrupt and instead of spending funds to feed its people they spend it instead decorating the major cities (which ironically is the only place that tourists are allowed to visit) they don't offer their citizens support like ours does to us. They cook in outdoor kitchens and the waste runs down gutters that line the streets, this is not because they don't care.. its because they don't have a choice. Soldiers roam the streets and rule the roost so to speak.

I have a Burmese friend who travels back to Burma periodically to help his family and he has to literally sneak money into the country at great risk to himself because if security saw it they would either take the money as 'taxes' or jail him.

A little money in a country like Burma goes a long way though.. I donated $100 USD to a local orphanage and with that money they were able to build kitchen so that they could feed the orphans. (The kitchen is a leanto and its equipped with a an open fires where they cook the food).. its primitive but it does the job, they also were able to purchase a couple of more beds for the kids to sleep on.. I send money to the orphanage whenever I am able.

:)

Artillery - supplied by: Serbia, Israel, UK, DPR Korea, Russia, India, Yugoslavia
Multiple rocket launchers - supplied by: DPR Korea, China, Vietnam
Heavy mortars - supplied by: France, Israel, Finland, China, Yugoslavia
SAMs and AA Artillery - supplied by: Soviet Union, China, Singapore
Light & Medium mortars - UK,China, US, Russia
Rocket launchers & recoilless guns - supplied by: US, China, Sweden
