Cleaning digital sensors in D3 & D300

Postby joey on Wed Jul 09, 2008 6:43 pm

I came across with some interesting information and thought it might be useful for people on this forum.

Digital sensors in D300 & D3 cameras are covered with a layer of TIN Oxide(Used as anti-static material?). If the sensor in these camera models is cleaned with Eclipse solution, the layer of TIN Oxide will removed and small portions of the layer will remain leaving stains on the sensor. Subsequently, the digital sensor will become dirty quickly as you use the camera.
There’s another solutionEclipse 2 which can be used to clean the sensors in D300 & D3.

The list of cameras:

Why wouldn't you just clean the sensor using the [Clean Now] option in "Clean image sensor" within the setup menu?

I am not sure. :) I don’t own the D300 or the D3.
There has been at least one occasion when the sensor in the D3 was cleaned with Eclipse. The results were not good and the owner took his D3 to Nikon support to solve the problem.

From the tableabove, it is recommended that Eclipse 2 is also to be used to clean the sensors in D2Xs, D70, D70s, D40, D40x, D60, D80 models.

D3 is not equipped with a self sensor cleaner, only on the D300 as I know.

Does anyone know where I can source this Eclipse E fluid? Or the standard Eclipse fluid? My stock is running low.

I have a bunny on my D300 that the built in clean function can't seem to budge even though it runs on camera statup and shutdown
