Trouble converting Raw in Photoshop CS2

Postby hrpremier on Fri Jul 18, 2008 10:46 pm

HI All.

Just took some picture last night and todayin RAW mode on my Canon 40d for the first time and uploaded the to my PC. Went to open them tonight to have a play and fiddle but when CS2 opens a message appears stating " Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document "

It does open other RAW files which a mate has taken on his 5D but not images from my body. When I go into "My Computer" to where I copied the images to an icon appears which says CR2 and is a grey disc on a white piece of paper so I believe the Raw file is in its correct format. Is there a setting on the menu of my 40d I need to change or can someone recommend another software I can borrow for nothing to convert the raw to allow CS2 to open it

Thanks in advance

Jase

im not 100% sure but could it be that the last version o Camera Raw for CS2 incompatible with the 40D and newer?
ie. you need CS3 or Lightroom to read it..

The recommended workaround is to convert it to a DNG using Adobe's free DNG converter.

Or download FastStone Image Viewer fom the web, it does batch conversions from RAW to almost any format, and you can set it to do stuff like watermark, resize, adjust, adda frame etc if you want.

Very reliable and useful, I use it for all my batch work as my budgetis tight.

I know you said CS2, but if it's anything like CS3

Camera RAW file http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
goes in .\adobe\adobebridgeCS3
and another copy of the same camera raw file in .\adobe\adobephotoshopCS3\plugins\fileformats\

Hope this solves the problem.

Note: I've got a 40d, and had the same issues as you, although I'm not sure if this would work with CS2, I'd imagine it would.
