using the GPS function of your camera - ???

So.
I am off on a 10 day bash soon (the Variety Bash which is going from Blacktown to Batemans Bay via the outback, Great Ocean Road and the snowies)... and I remember reading/hearing something about how you can hook up your camera to a GPS (?) unit and get the exact location of where you took each image. What I woudl like to do is track where we went and then load it into a google map or something (is this possible) so I can look at the images from a map ratehr than just a boring old folder... does this all make sense?
I don't have too long to organise this (I ALWAYS leave these things late) and if it is going to cost me too much than I will forget it (anyone want to lend me whatever it is I need )!!!
So, what do I need, where do I get it and can I do what i want to do?
Cheers,
