I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I have a Lenspen that I only got a few weeks ago. I used a cleaning cloth before, but once I got a finger print at the edge of the lens the Lenspen was the only solution for me.

When I first got it, it never left any streaks or smudges, but now it does. I've tried turning the cap to replenish the tip, but it doesn't seem to help. It was quite expensive at just under $20 so I'm feeling a little cheated atm.

How do you clean the tip of a Lenspen? How long are Lenspens supposed to last?

Hey fozzie, the information about that product sounds good, what are your personal experiences with it? Does it leave streaks or require much time/effort to leave the lens clean?

The Lenspen is easy to use and is great as its the size of a felt pen, but since its a dry applicator its hard to tell if you're 'cleaning' the surface

StarForge - it works for me . I use it clean my lenses, filters and contacts on body and lenses with faultless results. Therefore, highly recommended.

To my knowledge you dont clean the cleaning end of the pen and from memory from the destructions the cleaning pad on the end should only come in to contact with glass as it has some sought of moisture in it all be it very little. IMO the pen is the quikest and most effective way of cleaning glass and I keep about 4 around to put in different bags...hope this helped.....cheers

Yeah its so convenient eh? Have you had one 'run out' of cleaning 'stuff' yet? Any guesses to how long they last?

No they just seem to never end one of the pens is at least 8yrs...im hooked and have been for awhile....cheers

I used to use one to clean optics of a different sort, which would end up with oil and other particles on it. Worked fine for me, even with all the crap that would be on the end of the optics. Have never used one for the camera gear, but might try it now that you've reminded me of their existence, currently I use a microfibre lens cloth.

I couldn't live without my lenspens.. find them brilliant as they seem to remove all the smudges etc and last for ages. Maybe you have a dud one I'd write to the company and tell them that you've asked around and no one else has had the same problem... (send them a link to the this thread even)..

Hey everyone, thanks for all your responses. I just tried using it again today and it seems to be working just like when I first got it... I can only assume that the other night there was something stubborn on the lens and it took many applications to remove it. Hooray I'm a happy Lenspen owner once again

I have a Mini LensPen that seems to have gone dry to some extent. It was the first LensPen I bought, so its done a far job. I have a newer Mini LensPen in another bag that works better. My larger Pen still works fine.
I always give my lens a wipe with a micro cloth after I use them, it gives that slight finish to the clean.

I prefer giving a wet clean after Ive been anywhere near the sea to remove the salt on the glass before I any contact cleaning just so I dont add any scratches.
