Hi,

I am looking to get a digital photoframe that will be placed on a hall table/buffet/sidetable and was looking for advice in terms of features and brands.

Cheers

Nothing to offer here but I'll be watching the thread as Vicki is after something as well.

Is there a specific size you are looking for?

That is a fairly big screen you are looking for. I've seen digital frames up to 12" (diagonal), as close as to 8x10 it is...

this might be from left field but hey... have you thought about a DIY solution? I am actually planning on do this sometime in the future when I get a spare day.

There are plenty of websites with various ways of doing it, but the one I was thinking of was an old 19" LCD coupled with the SanDisk Digital Photo Viewer (or similiar) whack all this in a nice neat wooden frame and off you go :D . I found if you want a 'off the shelf' solution for large displays they cost lots, however if you are only after a 6X4 these are quite cheap ~AUD50 depending on features and resolution.

anyway HTH.

one of the DIY sites..

Thanks for the replies guys,

I have seen Teds and JB HIFI specials on their photoframes and was wondering if there were brands that I should stay away from. In terms of size I am re-thinking it to be a max of 10"

The DIY tips sounds interesting, but may be a bit bulky. The missus is after a more off the shelf solution as she know if we go DIY, it would take forever to get made.

Cheers

If you are buying retail, take some files with you and check them out on the device.

We bought one in HK a couple of years ago. The only one I could find that had reasonable colour was a Phillips unit. There were plenty cheaper, with more features like movies and audio, but I spend too much energy taking photos to have them look like crap, even on the photoframe.

It's only 6x4 or something like that, but the colour remains good.

I bought a 15" model (1024*768) off Zazz prior to last Xmas -- seems pretty good when it gets used.

Can't remember the model etc but it is quite bright, colours are OK, and after seeing that size, I think a 10/12" or smaller wouldn't be big enough.

No idea where you would source one retail now (but if I needed I would buy it again).

However -- now that I have a spare 17"LCD, I'd probably try and use that 1st.

I may still have the box at home.... but probably a generic Chinese brand I'd reckon.
