I'm looking at where to get best deal for a EN-EL4a battery. They are all very expensive on the local dealers I've seen. :(

Do anyone here uses a third-party EN-EL4 replacement? Any idea how that would perform to the genuine one?

Where would you guys suggest to get one of this?

I would ask Gary (via PM, he doesn't read every post on this site) for a Bargain Section price.

There's a review on the net somewhere (might be for an en-el4) that takes the battery apart and shows how complex the functionality of the battery is. I was thinking of getting a third party battery but I came to the conclusuion that it just wasn't worth the risk. It's not just that it may not deliver the juice, it may actually damage the camera (and you may never twig why). I ended up getting an extra genuine one somewhat cheaper on ebay.

Yi-P,

The best I can come up with on e-bay for the genuine product is AUD140 + AUD 10 Registered Mail from T-Dimension2 Photography Company, Hong Kong:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nikon-EN-EL4a-en ... m153.l1262

Otherwise, Discount Digital Photographics @ AUD187 + Postage & Handling, just over half way down the link:
