Hello from a new member

I was told about this forum by ozonejunkie, and was impressed enough to join up. I've had a bit of a browse around, and it seems to be a fantastic community and knowledge base to participate in.
I'm a PhD student doing physics research at the Australian National University in Canberra, and my research involves shining lasers at diamonds and making them glow (all in the name of "Quantum Computing", but perhaps I'll leave the details out for now). I'm married, and we have a pet cat.
Photography is a long-time hobby of mine, and years ago in high school I got a Nikon F50 SLR. Just over a year ago I purchased a D70 second hand, and it has proven to be a wonderful camera. There are a few newer cameras that I drool over (D700 comes to mind), but budget restrictions mean that I'll have to stick with the D70 for a while. My equipment list consists of:
Nikon F50 - rarely used these days.
Nikon D70
NIkkor 35-80 4-5.6 D (kit with F50)
Nikkor 18-70 ED DX (kit with D70)
NIkkor 70-300 G
Manfrotto 190XproB tripod

I'm looking forward to participating in and learning from these forums (as time permits), and would like to thank you all for creating such a friendly and helpful community.
