Camera Magazines????I might be opening Pandora's Box here but what camera magzines do members buy to keep them up todate with latest releases, techniques and reviews. Also what do you like about them which keeps you buying them. Im not sure if any magazines are aphiliated with the site or not but just curious to see what other users read.
Ive been buying Digital Camera World which is a UK based mag. Only reason being when travelling to Cairns to live whilst on holidays its what I picked up from the newsagents as a first introduction to the DSLR world. Just been buying it since, whenever I can find it. Has good articles and some great quality pics from other readers and usually comes with a disc with little projects to keep me improving my technique. It usually hits our shelves about 5 - 6 weeks after the UK release date. Not sure what Aussie mags there are but might be willing to start buying them. The fact I cant enter any comps as im international from the uk, the fact everything is advertised in pounds and the release delay has got me looking for something else. Just a thought Jase 4869 Guess What! ........I Have A Fever........And The Only Perscription........Is More Cowbell.
Re: Camera Magazines????I've been buying PhotoPlus on and off. It's touted as being "an independent mag for Canon photographers", and is aimed at slr newbies to middle experience users.
As with the mag you mentioned, lots of photshop tutorials, along with working samples on the cd (not that I've gotten around to viewing them yet). Obviously the PS tutorials apply to all...! Not too bad, but UK based again. $13.95... that sux. The few other Aussie mags I've picked up seem to be aimed at a more pro level, and don't seem to have as many pictures and tuts in them. Kind of a bit high-brow to me!
Re: Camera Magazines????
Jase, What year is it please? No magazine can deliver anything in the form of up-to-date reviews and releases; it's all on the net in a matter f minutes, and magazines need a lot of lead time. Look at places like DPR for reviews, and then come here for discussion. g.

Re: Camera Magazines????Jase,
as Gary says, for reviews, latest releases, the web is best. Sites like DPreviews, Rob Galbreith, etc are very good. For techniques, there are also plenty of those on the web but if you prefer a paper version, there is Australian Photography(monthly), Better Photography(quaterly) and quite a few more. There was a topic on this by Rel a few weeks back, have a search on the forums. cheers, André Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. Re: Camera Magazines????Whilst I agree with Gary, I still buy some magazines, namely Black & White (UK mag dedicated to...) and Better Photography.
I like these magazines because they include reviews of other photographers, techniques and aren't loaded with reams of compact camera reviews. There are many times when I don't want to be stuck in front of a PC reading article upon article on the 'net. For these reasons, there is no concern for me about release dates, etc. Regards, Patrick

Re: Camera Magazines????Slightly OT, apologies in advance Jase.
Not a photography magazine per se, but does (or should I say, did) anyone else follow '[Not Only] B+W'? (ETA: And Reschmooth, I assume this is a different magazine to the one you refer to??) I enjoyed it in a funky-magazine-with-photographic-bent way, but they have been on hiatus for SO LONG, I'm now thinking it's time to ask for a refund on my subscription... Re: Camera Magazines????I tend to buy Digital Photograper another UK mag. Some good articles on technique by pro's and and I like the PS how to's. In the last issue however they have changed their format to solicit more reader involvement. Will have to watch this to see how it develops.
Interesting from above it appears most people are reading UK mags. Why is this? What wrong with the Aussie mags. D700, 50 1.8, 14-24 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 70-200VR, 80-400VR, SB800 plus a lot of gadgets
Re: Camera Magazines????Personally I would love to buy the Aussie mags, but the UK ones seem to have more tutorial based content & less ads.....too many ads are a turnoff (to me anyway), as said before we don't need mags to find out about the latest releases....the net is way better & quicker for that!
The only thing I don't like about buying the UK mags is seeing all the great competitions.....& then realizing that I can't enter 400D - Sigma 17-70 macro - Canon 70-300 F4-5.6 IS
mono & tripod & a bunch of other little stuff Wishlist: canon 50mm f1.4 & canon 70-200 f2.8 ....& one day a better camera to put them on
Re: Camera Magazines????
I find UK mags are better in general- and not just photography but they have good mtn bike mags, woodturning mags etc. I sometimes buy a mag if I'm going away or people get them for presents for me, not regulalry enough to know the names. I agree it is nice to hold them and be away from the computer. Its like how its good to print your images sometimes rather than just looking at them on the screen. Robert Robert

Re: Camera Magazines????For aus mags PhotoReview
and I subscribe to Lenswork - It is a fine art photography mag so there is no review and minimal technique articles but the photography is insirational. I also pick up the odd black and white if when browsing at the newsagents it interests me.
Re: Camera Magazines????
Don't know about other mags but Digital Photographer accepts overseas entries to their comps via the net. See here:- http://www.dphotographer.co.uk/competitions_2008.php D700, 50 1.8, 14-24 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 70-200VR, 80-400VR, SB800 plus a lot of gadgets
